Ok well here is my offical entry. First lets start with the photo.


I know that in the stock side the canopy and base are not part of the judging but since the tank is going in my bedroom I figured it should look nice. I searched around for someone to make me a canopy and base and found just what I was looking for.

Here are the drawings that the builder did for me prior to building them. I had the canopy built out of pine, and I am painting the inside gloss white, and the outside gloss black.



And here is the final product.



The back of the tank will be painted black, and I will be using a cheap HOB filter I have in the garage. Lighting will either be a 20w screw in bulb, or I will get a retro 2x9w kit, I havent decided yet.

Stocking will be mainly zoo's and shrooms, maybe some simple LPS or acans. For livestock I am thinking that a seahorse would look very nice, if I can find any locally.

Ok well that is all for now, more pics once I finish painting the canopy and base and the tank is painted.

Looking great Adam...Thats an awesome canopy/base combo you got there... Are you sure it's Pine? Looks like Poplar to me....

, well you built it, so if it is poplar then it is poplar. I know this it sure sucks up paint, probably gonna take 3-4 coats to look good.

My prediction - here is our stock winner. Nice and simple (20w screw in, zoos and shrooms, cheap hob from garage) > fancy and complicated.

I think I need one more coat of paint, but I am to lazy to do it. That is 5 coats of Hi-Gloss black.

Try a coat of Testors Gloss clear coat. You'll be amazed

Ok time for an overdue update. I have been very busy as of late and wasnt able to devote as much time to the tank as I wanted, but finally got water salt and sand in the tank. So here it is.

Lovely looking hood/base trim, simple and yet very stylish. I'm going to be embarrassed to show off my little effort, it's a good job this competition is not about carpentry skills.

Ok finally added some rocks and a few corals, the water is still a little cloudy, and a few things still have to open all the way but you get the idea.

And here it is the next day cleared up, also I added a blue leg hermit, and two cerith snails

Ok folks I am open to any suggestions, so lets have them.

Looking good! Have you thought of adding any macro to the display?

I am not a fan of macro in the display.

how about a contrasting colored shroom or other coral? e.g. green candy cane, gsp, etc.

and/or some stalked corals like xenia or anthelia to show some water dynamics?

I like the other shroom ideas, and the xenia, I will have to frag some and give it a try.

I really like your lid. Is there a reason all these 2.5G lids are so tall? Is it possible to shorten them so they dont look like huge hats or does this serve a purpose?

without finding slim line lighting, not really. Most of the height is due to the lighting being so thick and needing to be kept above the water.

Right what BTF said. If you knew the exact measurements of your lighting, you could probably slim it down an inch. But since I didnt know exactly what Adam was gonna put in there, i made sure he had enough room.

I would redo your rocks. I mean they are "OK" but I think if your going to win you need to have some "Awsome" rocks. Just a thought...

Sorry I havent replied lately I have been real busy with work. Things are they same as they were, but I now have hair algae. I need to clean it up, this weekend I plan to show this guy some love.

WEll not much has changed with this, still just pluggin along. Not sure what I want to do, still thinking and planning.

Sadly the tank has been taken down due to a busy life. Everything has been moved to a larger tank. I guess I am out.
