Well curley-cues are in the same family, but not as problematic as aiptasia. Aiptasia are generally brown, sometimes with a few white speckles.

kill 'em all.

Now hold on there. Let's think about this. The challenge of this competition is to show the best growth right? Who could lose with an Aptaisa family tank? It would be nothing but growth biggrin.gif
mickey85
well, if that's the case, I've got a rock covered in about 10 of 'em in my 5G FOWLRAA (fish only with live rock and aptasia). I should just throw that in my 2.5. argh.
CGNano
I was just in Daytona smile.gif

I actually thought I saw you LOL;;

There was this 13 year old in the LFS and he was buying a ton of stuff, just like you always do LOL
Fishfreak218
loloololol......^^^^^...anyway sorry for not updating Hurrican Wilma was a B!+ch.... nocked out the power...and i have a generator but the clubhouse didnt and thats where we get internet from (or sumthing like that i cant xplain it) but make a long story shor we got a generator for the clubhouse and now we have power...anyway...i was so so so sos o bored...and i am actually paying (cugh: CGnano : cough) for a new tank...its a 55g...so screw the plans of acustom tank....i added another 18w. light with 6700K bulbs...for the plants...very nice growth... i also did a 30-50% (i dont know how much..about 50% of the water was gone..maybe a little more maybe a little less.) anyway thats really it...i bought some stuff for the tank so im waiting for the cycle to finish...not that i have even tested the water blush.gif anyway ill have to put up pics. of the tank and the anemone...i didnt have time to the last time i had internet and the next morning the Hurricane came,.....i only lost one thing....since we had a generator b.c. i had a fan blowing over the tank...like an 18" fan...(a really big one..i dont know the exact size..just a guess) and it was evapirating and the temps. kept fluctuating so i lost one rock of button polyps....and thats abiout it
CGNano
LOL

You can take my 55 gallon if you want it. Its just sitting around in my garage like usual.
Fishfreak218
if i was driving to S. or N. (sorry i keep forgeting) carolina than i would.....but im saving up...i can get $45 a week...if i dont eat lunch..so i already have alot so soon i will have enough but thanks anyway.....ok...i didnt even get a chance to look at the 2.5g today....so when i got around to it....i reqalized my shaving brush plant had died..alot of the leaves or w/e u wanna call 'em fell of sometime between last night and today ...i thinnk they looked like they were still in place b.c. the flow on the Aquaclear was turned all the way down and last night i turned it all the way up...just to see what would happen and so i guess the added flow nocked the leavesw around....anyway it was dying from the inside stock and up to the "leaves" also the red fern macro was getting overgrown with some kind of pest algea.... (which actually looks really nice) ....and i dont really know if it is a pest...thats just a guess...but w/e so i moved the fern algea into my 30g......anyway so the tank has really taken off with growth....anyway it looks realy bad right now so no recent pics....i might reaquascape though....any thoughts on that???
Casabubu
your so spoiled blink.gif
Fishfreak218
SHHH! happydance.gif blush.gif unsure.gif ohmy.gif wink.gif tongue.gif laugh.gif cool.gif ...lol...i wub.gif our new smilies
Fishfreak218
ok....quiq update....i promise pics are going to go up tonight...just got back from LFS and got some Zoanthids for the tank....REALLY nice ones....they are waiting in my 30g. and i cannot fin one place to put it.....the whole tank is packed with a TON of coral....there is a few places but they just keep falling from there...so hopefully i can find a nice spot somewhere for them...cant wait to set up my 55 and clear out some of my 30g. anyway cleaned up the 2.5g cleaned the front glass with the tinyies magfloat they make....ill post a pic of it in the tank for size comparison...it is less than 2" long...its like 1 and 3/4" so it is really tiiny...i havnt seen anybody on here with one this small....also put the Culerpa Prolifera where the Shaving Brush Plant USED ( tears01.gif ) to be........ and i had to trim it alittle b.c. it was getting very stringy and some of the leaves where going pale....and from what i hear if the leaves turn clear/plae that means they are releasing nutrients into your tank...so i trimed off those two leaves....anyay i already have 3 corals... and a few other things i need to frag and another frag siting in my tank....just waiting.....also the Curly Que Anemone didnt come out the whole day today...its really weird......pics to come tonight...
CGNano
Told you the Shaving Brush wasn't the best choice smile.gif.

Anyways, I picked up my Live Rock today. I got 7 pounds for my 2.5. I figure the Biological Filtration will be good enough.

I also grabbed some really adorable blue legged hermits for $2.00 each.
Fishfreak218
^^^is this yuor tanks thread or mine CGNano^^^^......lol....j/k i dont give a shnit.....anyway WOW 7lbs. is a ton of rock.....i almost got 4lbs. but i thought the more water volume would be better.......since bio-load wont be huge....i am still deciding between 2 things....one of the choices i am raising right now...they were born a while ago but they are taking so damn long to grow up.....lol...i might not put them in here though....i still dont know...decisions, decision... huh.gif

i didnt know Blue Legs could be adorable...anything special about yours??? do they have nice shells or something???
CGNano
No LOL, they just look so cute smile.gif They clamber around the rocks and are like half an inch long. They are have orange and blue legs like most of them do... atleast I think most of them do.

BTW new AIM is Chrissttifa.
Fishfreak218
ok...well i promised i would give you pics. so here you guys go

Qurly Que Anemone:

And Another:

and a FTS to come.....
CGNano
Thats Aiptasia.

Hate to dissapoint you, Josh.

BTW Royal Grammas rock. I loved mine so much, then as usual, a storm knocks out the power.

Now hold on there. Let's think about this. The challenge of this competition is to show the best growth right?

What thread communicates the judging rules?
Fishfreak218
And Here is some more:

and a pic of the growth:

and that is it for now

WOWOWOWOW....sorry for the overly HUGE pics guys but i cant resize on TinyPic i guess ull just have to live with it.....anyway sorry
Casabubu
I think that first pic might have been the crappiest pic I have ever seen biggrin.gif. Other that that, tank looks good!
jmorris
RESIZE PICS!!! rant01.gif
Daemonfly
I agree that there's a huge possibility that the "curly cue" anemone is aiptasia. They are in the same family, and often look similar, but in this case, I have aiptasia that looks exactly the same. Some can be pure brown, some can have the bluish markings like shown. This color pattern can vary widely from parent to "offspring".
Fishfreak218
sorry... i dont know how to resize except for Photobucket and my account was full....so i used tinypic.com sorry.....know u got me worrying DeamonFly.....i hope it's not anemone...well it didnt come out at all today so maybe it is dying.....anyway im at my Aunt's house for din din and i dont have internet again so im using his comp. so the updates may take awhile...also i noticed that 2 other people (3 in total) have Caulerpa Prolifera in their tanks....i think that is a really big coeincadence (SP?) ......anyway no update reallly.....sorry for the bad/huge pics....
Blind Tree Frog
There are various free programs that allow resizing of pics, like The GIMP (works well for amueter photographers... well enough at least).

Microsoft Paint will also resize JPGs.
Fishfreak218
ok well the lights have been on for 2 days straight now... blush.gif omgomgomg.gif .....here is the story behind it....well i slept over my friends house last night and before we left to go to her house i told my bro i would call him and remind him to turn off my fishtank lights...(my 30g. fully stocked scarry01.gif ..and my pico wich thankfully doesnt have anything in it....)...so anyway we get to her house and some other friends slept o0ver 2...that i was also friends with and we where having so much fun that i totally forgot blush.gif about my tanks...i never called my bro so the lights stayed on from the mourning throughout the night and till 3:45 today......thats when i got home from her house and realized....so i turned off the lights on my Pico and they are off 4 the rest of the night..and i just left my Pico's light on since all that is living in it is Aptasia/Curly Que anemone.....anyway the anemone is in his little canve for 3 days now....and i noticed some Feather Culerpa growing on my LR....so i guess more macro's and also the Sargassum is shedding the old and growing new leaves/stalks.....so im excited b.c. i thought for sure it was a gonner....also i forgot to mention....i am running 2 fixtures both coralife 18w fixtures one with a 9w 10k and a 9w actinic and the other a 9w 6700k and a 9w actinic.....so i have a total of 36w of light......
Fishfreak218
well...not really much of an update but i am thinking this rockwork sucks @$$ so i might get
more rocks.......what do you guys think....
while i still have a week of the cycle (estimated) i should get the cured
stuff at LFS..and it can go throught its minicycle... also i think im going to do mainly a Zoanthid and mushroom (ricordea's too)
and maybe some LPS for the sand or sumthing....but im leaning toward zoanthids and Mushrooms...stocking is still undesided
minimalist
Open the pic in Microsoft Paint. Go to Image > Stretch/Skew to resize.
Fishfreak218
thanks Minimalist...now anyway...i have some rock in my 30g. that im going to use to replace that one rock with Aptasia.... (and it now has an Offspring..YIKES)...and add some more rock when the cycle is over.....i think the tank is Finnaly 4 weeks old now (got to go check the calendar) so i should be getting my water checked today or tommorow.....most likly tommorw b.c. im goin to a Car show in Miami today....OHH..and off topic but my friends dad just got an Aston martin what a nice, blingbling-1.gif car.....very cool..i hope we see one at the car show..anyway.....so thats kinda it for the update
Fishfreak218
well anyway the Car show was AWESOME....now my dad is thinking ofgetting the new Jaguar (SP?) XK (oritmight be KX...do a www.google.com image search on it) anyway today i took out the Caulerpa Prolifera b.c. it was not looking the way i planed..and then i took some feather Caulerpa from my 30g. out which was attached to a small peice of LR..which is shaped like some kind of SPS...very vaguly (SP)..but you can stil tell it used to be and then stuff grew on it etc. anyway while my hand was in the tank i decided to take out the rock w/ the Aptasia on it (which now has a baby) anyway somethiung bright caught mY EYE..so i looked at it and i put the rock bak into the tank...anyway it is kinda cool..so i may buy a Pep. shrimp...let him eat up...and then give him back to the LFS....so anyways thins thing i think it is a Tunicate...but it is kinda hard...i will post RESIZED pics tonight..lol
Fishfreak218
sorry guys for not posting pics...but my parents were at Mexico and they took the camra, anyway they came back last night....also while i was at the LFS getting my water tested they had JoesJuice cool.gif so i bought some and zapped those FooKerzz laugh.gif .....anyway my water tested out:

Alkalinity: 5.6 (The Worst of them all but i will do a water change or something...and get it under control
Ammonia, trate, phosphates, and trites: 0 (yessss)
Calcium: 420
PH: 8.3
Salinity (with refractometer): 1.025
ohmy.gif
anyway this small tank was better than my 30g. and so i actlimated my FIRST corals to the tank.... omgomgomg.gif lockdown.gif fingersx01.gif dancingnaughty.gif
anyway tommorow when they arent as closed up and when the tank clears up ill post pics....
Fishfreak218
The Livestock as of tonight

Ok here is the list of livestock as of tonight:

1 astrea
2 unidentified snails...(no arm done yet)
8 mushrooms ( 5 of which are VERY TINY...like about 1-2mm in diameter...and they arebunched ttogether....they used to be one larger mushroom but he died, and left baby fragments of him...so i guess you can say he is still there)
3lbs of liverock
Feather Caulerpa
1 Orange Tunicate
Feather Caulerpa
Sargassum

thats it for now...more corals to come...im going to tes how these guys do out untill next week...)
Fishfreak218
Blue Dot Mushroom:

FTS:

and my Orange Tunicate:

Enjoy...more pics to come...i have to go watch CSI.... biggrin.gif laugh.gif
Fishfreak218
Also i think i forgot to say that this morning i added a Turbo Snail to help clean up that rock on the right....i has TREMNDOUS growth on it....some very cool and others i wish would be gone.....anyway i have more coral to go into the tank....just waiting....and waiting and waiting in my 30g.
Ann
Those are some nice looking 'shrooms, but the squirt is just fantastic, best of luck with it. You have a natural looking tank and I like the algae growth (the cool stuff that is). cool.gif

Best regards

Ann
Fishfreak218
Thanks Ann,
lol....i have to go get some DT's to feed it....and i think to help out and get the "extra" DT's that the Tunicate doesnt eat i wil get a Feather Duster or something....anyway i am going to add more snails and take out the turbo b.c. they poop ALOT, my plan of an open tank is not really possible w/ the rocks i got.....so i guess i will just have to do my best to make it looks nice...anyway more updates when i get more coral.....i think im going to be puting in some today, so keep
checking in...

Josh
Fishfreak218
WHOOT WHOOT....I GOT A NIKON D50 TODAY...

The battery is chargin right now......so pics soon...and also i have 10days with this Camera either until christmas or if i dont like the camera it will go back to Ritz Camera and i will either trade it in for something or get my moeny back..anyway i will have to post pics....
Fishfreak218
ok.....well bad nes about the camera.....i droped it and it smashed.... no im j/k (just kidding) lol anyway there is still bad news though...when i first got the camera home it had a little battery life left so i got it and tooksome pics, of stuff around my house...(outside) these pics came out GREAT....then i tried taking some pics of my tank and they tunred out pretty good...but then something happened and i messed up the settings and cant get it back to normal...so no pics of the 2.5g just of my 30g. and i dont even know if im going to upload them to my comp....anyway i added a rock of Green Ricordea....and it has a red feather duster on it...bt the Duster is kinda hard to see....anyway I also took out the 6700k light and put in a 10k light.....for a more blue look..maybe ill get better pics with it anyway thats it for now....pics to come
Fishfreak218
some pics...not taken with the D50..:

and some mushrooms:
ZooGirl
I think your pics are lookin' pretty good without the D50. I can't wait to see the new and improved images! tongue.gif
Reefer Addict
What about the glass? Are you using a 105mm macro lens?
Fishfreak218
no.......for all of these pics..im using a Canon Powershot Elph SD400.....too see some pics taken with the D50.....go this link..but on it some of the things that im actually focusing on are in the middle and some of the pics are bigso you have to scrollover to see the whole pic: http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=72327BTW im using the stock 18-55mm lens.....im testing it b4 X-masto see if it is something i really want......and then we have 10 days to return everything....and 30dys to trade it in for other stuff...but i like it...im going to get a105mm lens....some day..when i actualy know how to use the camera...im learning slowly..and keep in mind...i barly know what im doing....
Pili
Just switch the camera to auto and turn off the flash (read the manual) and you should be ok for now until you learn what your doing. Also put it into auto focus because some of the pics you took were out of focus.

Read up on a couple general photography websites and get a few photo books out of the library and that should help you a ton. Pretty much all the basic techniques from film can be applied to digital with a dslr.
Fishfreak218
AND FINNALY PICS FROM THE D50.....

Fishfreak218
Wow...no one replied....its not that bad is it???
Snoop
Dont take this with offense but where is the CUSTOM part just get moved to STOCK.
Fishfreak218
the custom part is the part where i have 36w of light...and freedom to do w/e i want.....plus...there is too many people in the stock category and i wanna see how good i do against some of the better people in Custom....i just looked at the pics and realized how blurry they were...ill have to get better ones...I need a tripod too....and a better Lens
Snoop
Oh you have 36watt I thought you had 18.
Fishfreak218
anybody else got anythign to say about the aquascaping/???
Snoop
