Man, I am pumped for this contest! I already have all of my equipment, just need to know the entry photo criteria.
Setup:
2.5 aga tank
Satellite 18w pc hood w/ moonlight
Ac mini
8w heater
My tank will be filled with mostly polyp corals, such as shrooms, zoos, star polyps, and of course anthelia, my favorite coral. I may get a small frogspawn, too. As for fish, I have had my eye on an orange spotted goby for a while, and for inverts, a couple shrimp and an anemone crab will do.
Cmon Gilman, Whats the entry pic?

I got everything set up on saturday. The rocks and sand came from my brother's 4+ month old tank, and I filled up the tank with that nutri seawater stuff from my lfs. When I set it up, I put in some test zoo polyps, and they were doing awesome on sunday, so I added some more. My new favorite coral is my giant hairy mushroom, when totally open, it puffs up to 3+ inches and looks like I have an anemone in my tank. For my next coral, I think I'll add some pulsing xenia. TEEN REEFS RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah, I don't mess around

. I put in a tiny anemone crab yesterday, and he immediately found a spot under my frogspawn. I'll try to get a pic if he makes himself visible. I think I might get some pom pom xenia tonight, I know the perfect spot.

W00T! My tank's 1 week anniversary! My lfs sells clownfish for 10 bucks each, and they had a really small one today, and i picked him up. I'll probably trade him to my brother for his feather duster in a few months, but until then, he belongs to me.
Everyone, meet Phil
Here's a new fts. The anthelia has been growing like a weed, and the gsp is starting to spread. I also have some pom pom xenia coming in on tuesday.

Update time! I'm beginning to think that my giant shroom is getting too much light, cuz it has gotten a lot smaller and paler being in the direct light. Compare this pic to the last one and tell me what you think. The good news is that I am getting a ton of growth from my gsp and anthelia. I just hope that it doesn't become a problem
Also, i got a great deal at my lfs. The pic doesn't do them justice, but these mushrooms look like mini elephant ears with purple background and rims, and with bright red frills. I think the price was really 39.99, but with a combination of bad handwriting and parts of the letters rubbed out, it looked like 24.99. You must use writing on prop tanks to your advantage, grasshopper.
Wow, it looks fantastic already and I haven't even got any water in my pico yet.
Keep up the good work.

Best regards
Ann

Thanks Ann! I just realized that I ran out of room for corals, so I did some re-aquascaping. It kinda looks like a double-caved island now, with plenty of room for more corals. I still need to find my "main attraction" of the tank, I think maybe an open brain would be cool. I'm waiting for my replacement xenia from liveaquaria, the first one died in shipping; the rock it was on flipped over and killed it

. I'll try to get a pic up tomorrow when everything clears up. I'm swearing to myself that I will not do any more re aquascaping for the rest of the contest.

I think you're making a mistake putting a clownfish in a 2.5g tank.

The idea of this contest is to have a 2.5 gal tank that looks natural and has well chosen inhabitants... you kinda missed the mark there.

please don't gang up on me

. I've been wondering if it was a good idea to put in the clown...probably not. Sorry guys, i'll try to improve things.

In a small tank like this you really have to think about the animals you put in. The waist a single fish makes can mess up a tank like this fast. Pluse its not humane to have a fish in such a small space, IMO. So please get the fish out, and go for a shrimp, small goby, or something. Tank looks great too, I wansnt tryin to bash you as long as your willing to change it.

Thanks guys. I dont wanna make any enemies

. The clown went into my brother's 10 gallon, and I'm thinking about some pederson shrimp. I took out some of the corals; I wanna be able to see some growth in this tank. Still trying to resist the urge to re-aquascape...

I've run into a bit of a problem. I was adjusting the rocks, and the biggest one fell, hitting the glass, and leaving a nice little crack in the center of the tank. I transferred everything quickly into my aquavase wave tank, and it actually looks pretty good. I was wondering if it would be legal to use the aquavase for the contest. The measurments are 11.25x6.5x8, which comes to 2.5 gallons. I was thinking about getting a 13w staples desk lamp and putting that over it. Can I do this?

Does the tank need to have the same dimensions as an aga 2.5 to be in stock?

Wow, over a month since the last update. Everything is growing, though I feel the anthelia could use more light. I need to fing a way to distribute light more evenly. On the upside, though, guess who scored a yasha goby for 20 bucks from the lfs!
Meet skeeter.

You should be disqualified. Gilman was very clear. If a car, or tank, crashes you cannot fix the car, or tank, and resume the race, or contest. I think it sucks, but that was his stance when this was asked in another thread.

The wave tank looks great...

I personally think people should be allowed to replace a broken tank and stay in the contest. What are you going to lose out on anyways by letting Brian stay in. Most people here will have spent way more than the winner gets in prizes.
I think everyone needs to keep there trap shut about poor livestock choices. So he had a tiny little clown Tigah has a mantis and I don't see anyone badgering him. I've never seen a clown grow to 3" in less than 6 months or at least none of mine

Ann: Thank you. Yeah, i am going to try to find a pistol shrimp soon; I hope I can find a Randall's. I really like your tank btw.
Nednai: I understand, and i will have to consult gilman about it, but are you even in the contest?
Tony: Thanks for sticking up for me, bro. I have been following your tank thread, and I like what I see.
And for you, debbeach, I'll try to get a fts up soon.

I had always assumed a tank crash to be the complete loss of a tank's stock and not the cracking of a tank? Anyway it's been over a month since this problem was reported and no judge has come forward to say that the tank is now disqualified so perhaps all is still good. I sure hope so.

My order from justcoral.com came yesterday, but my mom missed the pickup, so it spent an extra 5 hours in the back of an unheated fed ex truck. However, thanks to some awesome packing by scott, everything survived. I got a big rock with a mix of green skirt blues and fire and ice polyps. The colors are amazing! I'll post an updated fts later when they completely open up

Alright guys, I got some pics, along with that fts debbeach has been hollerin for.
Yesterday, I went to the lfs and got a sweet neon green star polyps rock for the right side. That's what the big purple thing is, cause it hasn't opened up at all. Skeeter the yasha is doing pretty well, i've been feeding him flakes, and he nibbles on the pods in the tank. I saw a rock with about 15 amazing yumas at the pet store for 59.99, and I'm going to pick it up when I get some christmas money. I may also get some sexy shrimp, but I don't know. All of the new stuff is still opening up, but here ya go.
Everything is really growing. My mom's camera makes everything look greenish, though. Weird....

Thanks. I went to the pet store today with some christmas money, and I picked up a yuma rock with about 19 polyps for 40 bucks. The yumas have a really cool color; they are reddish, but the mouths and tips are yellow, and there is sort of a faint bluish sheen over the red parts. The only problem is that the rock is like 5''x5'', so I broke it up into a million pieces and i'm trying o figure out where to put them. I may sell or trade a few of them, so keep your eyes open. I'll take some pics when everything clears up.

I think my pics are never good because my camera focuses on the glass instead of the inside. Any way to help with that? It might be because of the curves in the glass.
