Of course, they love shaddows. Maybe if you feed the tank with lots of fine particled food, they will come out better for you. They do for me, especially under blue lights.

Thanks... Of course now that I said they are hard to get a picture of, I haven't seen him!!! Seriously, I can't find him!!! My rockwork is NOT that complicated, but I haven't seen him for almost a week. Should I be worried?

No, you should not be worried, I'm sure he's still around. The are extremely hardy...mine survived my son squirting lotion into my pico! He's probably just found a place on the back of the rocks to hang for food.
I picked up my second pom pom today! My original (female I believe) has only ever had a nub for a pom pom, and only one at that. It's never looked better or worse and I've had her for nearly a year. Went to the LFS today and saw one with two full, beautiful little nems and snatched it right up. He's finally done with acclimation and was just added to the tank. Hopefully he'll 'share' as I've heard they do

Thanks for the quick reply! I just always worry when I can't find someone in my tank! I know... damn noob!!!
Congrats on the second one! I plan on adding a second one at some point!

Do you think he will be able to still get food?

It'll be a while before it settles in enough for me to get a pic. This is the crab I've had for a while. The best pic I've ever gotten of her (crappy camera + crab that hates faces = terrible pictures lol).

He'll be fine. Mine loves to run out and snatch pellets when the opportunity arises.

I saw my pom pom today. He is missing both his pom poms. He came out of the rock when I fed mysis so I decided to give him a piece of crab bites with the tweezers and he jumped on the tweezers and grabbed the food like he was starving. Hes still munching on the crab bite but he will be one happy crab.
This is my first feeding. Hopefully I can get better pics when I get a new camara.

Update...
I found him after all... I was a little worried! Of course, he was right in the FRONT of the tank, just blends in well I guess!!!
He has been in the tank about two weeks now, and already molted once, and he got his second pom pom!!!

Now he just needs a companion!!

Does anybody know if an emerald crab, or a porcelin crab will get along with the pom-pom crabs? I would like to pickup a pair of pom poms, but I already have an emerald and porcelin in my 29g. I would be willing to get rid of the emerald crab!

I have a pair of emeralds in my tank with my pom-pom and they don't bother each other. The pom-pom hides during the day and the emeralds have their own little spots. Everything seems happy for now...

So i came home to a very sad scene. My pom pom crab, being eaten by a nassarius snail. And i double checked, it was the real crab, not a molt. The acutal crab was half eaten, and left on the sandbed, and the snail just went on its merry way. The molt is sitting on the back of the tank, with BOTH nems still on it. I cant imagine the crab was actaully eaten alive, but that the crab had alredy died. Anyone have any ideas?

I just got two pom-pom's today and I am really excited, these are so cool. Here are some pics of the new additions, Willie and Marge:
Willie has white nems and Marge has red nems.

Here is Marge, who ran for the shadows once introduced into the tank.

Here is Willie, who doesn't seem to be shy at all.

Another shot of Willie waving his "poms" around.

I just got 2 pom poms about a week ago and they're really amusing to watch. Both come out at dinner time and wave their little pom poms around, they look like they're trying to be tough guys

Each one has 2 anenome's, hopefully they'll keep them

I feed my tank very sparingly, but these guys know exactly where/when the clowns miss a morsel of formula1/2. It's funny when it's in the open sand bed cause the flow is too much for them to leave the rocks.

I would feed with Mysis one day and pellet the next. It didnt seemed like he had an issue with either, im sure the Cylops would be fine too.

My pom pom made an appearance two nights ago, the first I've seen of him in about 3 months. I'm not sure if it was a coincidence but he was getting blown around on the sand and caught himself on a nassarius snail, which served as an anchor and dinner. Anyone else experienced the same thing? I read a thread recently about a pom pom serving a cleaner shrimp.

I used to enjoy my pom pom and love when he would come out and eat... now he turned into a little terrorist. He killed my shrimp, i saw it. he grabbed him and ate him alive. He also flipped my astrea snail over and ate it too. Saw that whole thing also. I dont know what to do with him cuz i want more inverts but he destroys them. He gets in fights with my emerald crab also but the emerald crab can sort of defend himslef with his claws. Mine is a male and is very aggresive. He attacks my hand if i get near his cave. And he eats everything from pellets to frozen to flakes and unfortunately live inverts...

yea i actually see mine try and stalk my pistol from time to time, but i think the pistols cave got buried and the YWG is now in QT so he has been MIA. my pom pom always seems to be plotting evil so i try and keep an eye on him when i can.

see i just dont know about them being able to waste most fish though. my pom pom was totally on a mission to get my pistol, but that means the POM POM would have to get thru my YWG first.
well i saw the POM launch an attack and totally hit my YW several times with the nems and after one flinch it didnt even phase my goby. the pom pom was even rubbin that thing in the gobies eye and he just kinda flicked him off like it was no thang.
i thought for sure there would be death everywhere, but to my surprise (thank GOD) everyone was okay.

Hey all, i have a pom pom who is in recovery. I got him in isolation so he can hopefully get his missing legs back. (he had a bad encounter w/ a very bad blenny). I have a rock anemone in there with him. Does anyone know how the rock anemone could affect the pom pom?

Hello to everybody.
I hope i can come to you.
I am Mona from Germany, Hamburg.
I have a 3 gallon Nano tank.
2 sweet Pom pom crabs live in it!
I bought a few month ago 2 crabs and one was fade away after one week.
One week ago i bought a new one.
I didnīt know if it is an male or female...or what, but 2 days after i set im in my tank, the new crab had an big pack of eggs

Now i want to raise them, and hope it will be good.
No other animals live in it, and so no one can eat the larves.
Is here anybody, that even try to raise these funny crabs?
I want to know, how long it takes until the larves come out?
My crab has the eggs about 6 days.
I hope my English isnīt so horrible and you understand what i want to say..
Thank you..
Much Greetings from germany

I was wondering if the pom pom crab would be compatible with a longnose hawkfish. I read that the hawk might eat small inverts so I'm guessing its a no but I am wondering on your opinions.
