Looking for a new skimmer to replace my Pro Clear POS skimmer.

So far the best reviewed skimmers are the 3 listed in the title.

So far I have these as my choices of skimmers

ETSS Sump Buddy 40 ~$210
- Up to 120G
- 4" x 7" x 23"

Aqua C Urchin Pro ~$225
- Up to 120G
- 7.5" x 5.25" x 20"

Reef Octopus 4 ~$180
- Up to 120G
- 12" x 8.5" x 22.13"

Bubble Magus NA6
- Up to 150G
- 6.7" x 10.4" x 19.6 "
Suggestions? Comments? Criticism?

I'm a big fan of reef octopus skimmers. Look around in the classifieds over on rc and you can find some great deals on used skimmers. I recently bought a octo extreme 200 for an upcoming project. That skimmer is HUGE compared to any others I've ever used, and the build quality is very good. I can't wait to see it in action.

I am trying to keep the size of the skimmer to a minimum as with the rest of the rock, the other filter media bags and what not, space is hard to come by.

The Sump Buddy 40 fits in a small space. Can really produce tons of skimmate. The only drawback is it requires a bigger pump than some of the other skimmers.

I hated my Aqua-C protein skimmer, although it was an older model. I never felt it was worth the money I spent on it
Pyrocide
any particular reason you did not like it?

bubble magus NAC6A (traditional cylinder) or NAC7 (cone)

not a fan of those down draft type skimmer
had a aquac remora skimmer before and it was unimpressive. just creates lots of sound and no foam
reef octo is a nice skimmer, but that one looks like it takes up a lot of space

what's the functional diff. b/t cone and cylinder?
Pyrocide
IIRC, cones are more efficient in that they focus bubbles together providing better surface for protein to adhere to them and be pushed out. At least thats how i remember reading it. huh.gif

I'll second the bubble magus NAC6... It's a good competitor to the reef octopus skimmers, it has nice dimensions (about 10.5x6.75x20) and it's cheaper too (www.nuocean.com).

I haven't used mine yet because I'm still setting up my system, but as you are, I did a bit of research before I purchased one and it seemed like a good choice.

I have a AquaC Urchin Pro and it does a pretty good job on my 40 w/ 29g sump. I have a drain on it, and it pulls out about 1/4 gallon of dark brown gunk every 3 weeks or so. Like others have said though, it is kinds noisy.

Here is my bubble magus NAC6A. But, I would get a SWC150 BMK, it use the same pump but the skimmer made better. http://www.shop.reeffiltration.com/product...mp;categoryId=2
