Hey everyone! I have a 24 Aquapod that is 2 years old the only filtrarion that i have is just the blue filters that come with the aquapod and the returning pump and a Rena heater. I haven't been able to keep a coral or fish ( only my watchman goby) and i was thinking that my " filtrarion" could be the reason of my tank not been able to hold a fish or coral. I am planing to remove the filters and add a aquatic life protein skimmer but i do not if that would solve the problem? So my question is what makes up a good filtrarion system for a reef tank? Thanks please reply!!!!

How much live rock do you have? What salt do you use? Do you use RODI water?
Live rock and regular water changes using a quality salt and RODI water are the basis of a successful reef aquarium setup. You can keep a healthy tank using nothing more. Protein skimmers, refugiums, carbon, chemipure, filter floss........... are all useful though non-essential additions. Have you cleaned or replaced the sponges? Also, what corals and fish have you tryed to keep?

+1 to everything. Also, what are your water parameters, and what are the test kit brands/models you're using to measure those parameters?

i think every tank needs some type of chemical media. most popular is carbon, but chemi-pure, or purigen are good. gotta keep the filter floss clean/replaced as well as the chemical media when it becomes exhausted
