I am new to skimmers and can't figure out how to set this up. The issue is the air intake tube plugs right into the top of the skimmer ( I think this is how it works). When I fire the skimmer it up it fills with water so then the pump no longer gets air. I have a rio 600 recirculation pump I am using with it. What am I doing wrong? I also attached a stock photo where you can see the tube connecting to the top of the skimmer.

I wanted to condense it as this is kind of a new issue. Can't get any air?

I used this skimmer, still have it in a box. The black tubing hangs over the skimmer and should have a venturi air control knob. Your pump has too much out-put and you need to dial it down. Another reason your collection cup is over-flowing may be because the water level is too high in your tank and you may need to lower it. Also the skimmer will go through a "break-in" period that could last anywhere from a couple of days to a week. Also try rasing the collection cup to its' highest setting by lowering the O-ring arond the cup.

Just a few suggestions for you.

Thanks Basser. I need to reconnect the hose with the control knob then. I took this off because I thought the hose had to go into the connection on the top of the skimmer (like the photo). Are you saying don't connect the hose here and just let it hang over the top so I can adjust it? Thanks again.
