So I picked this pump up yesterday and it only has male threads and a fastener on the output (seemingly for hose). Forgive me for being so clueless but I can still use pvc off this connection right? As long as I find the correct diameter fitting that will fit the male threads on the pump?
Do any of you run pvc off this pump? I know nothing about plumbing so go easy on me.

Yes, I use pvc on the output of my eheim pump. Just go to your local hardware store with your pump and they will have the correct diameter fitting.

Even when I use PVC for the majority of the plumbing I still use a short piece of flexible tubing off the pump to cut down on vibration. I use the barbed nipples but oversize that portion since barbed nipples are smaller inside diameter, really I oversize all my plumbing to cut down on head loss so if it is a 3/4" outlet I use 1" etc. This is really beneficial on the suction side of pumps if you must plumb an external pump to a sump.
