Full Version: What's a good return pump for a 1/2 gal tank?

I'm about to set up my 1/2 gal pico but I just need a return pump to move water from the sump to the tank. There will be about 1.5-2 feet of lift. This will be the only flow for the tank (no room for a pump in a tank this size), so I need something that will be reliable and in the right range of flow. Also, the sump will only be 5 gallons, so getting a larger pump and dialing it back to a lower flow will still heat my water up way too much. So I need a small pump that was meant for something like this.

I want to keep a mixed reef in this tank. Mostly zoas with some LPS without long sweepers and a few types of SPS. So I'm thinking I want to be around a 50X turnover. But that's only 25 GPH.

Any suggestions?

Here's a qucik snapshot for reference.

the hydor pico evolution 200/400 would work good they are 70 and 100 gph respectively. They are absolutely tiny. I have a 400 that i use to feed my GFO reactor. Here's a 400 compared to the MJ600 that it replaced.

Those both look good, but the Tunze is a few bucks cheaper. Is there any reason to pay more for the Hydor?
