ok so i set up my pump last night and it just doesn't seem to really move that much water. granted i do have a pretty big 6.5 lbs rock in the tank somabe thats blocking some flow. if i blast the ditritus up i can see where the flow comes around the rocks from the back sucking up water but i expected like holy sh!t flow you know i've got it on reef crest 75% in a 8.75 gallon tank that should be around 135x turnover. is it just that the flow is really that wide i don't see it really hauling or what? i followed the instructions to the T setting it up. cranked to max then plugged in and toned it down to where i wanted it. i didn't bother setting up the night cycle i just turned down the max speed. and then brought it back up before i left for work. just want to make sure i'm getting full use of the $175 i spent on this pump...
also on a side note i did try out the wave maker function just to see and i didn't see that crazy massive waves shown on youtube but i'm guessing i didn't find my tank's harmonic resonance. so i can fiddle with that later. although i did get a small mabe .75-1" wave rocking back and forth through the tank. any ideas on changing settings?

Yes the flow is wide. I have mine in a 22G Tank set at 100% . The pump is about 5 inches below the surface and at max speed I get quite a bit of surface agitation. I have found that I need to lower the pump a bit more as I get a whirlpool into the pump every once in a while.
I went from a couple Tunze 6025's that were quite directional. The Tunze were like a hose compared to the Vortech, the undertow that it produces is amazing.

I installed an mp10 last week in my 35g tank... My experiences is almost the exact opposite of yours.
I have it set for lagoon running at around 75%. Its about 8 inches from the surface... when the mode is at it's peak, a whirlpool forms on the surface.
If I turn the pump to 100%, my tank experiences storm like conditions...
Your tank is considerably smaller than mine... I so I am not sure why you finding it to be underpowered...
Where is it positioned?

Something is deffiantly wrong, not enough in a 8g? On full blast it should be like a tornado in that tank!

it took me a little bit of time to play with the wave maker and get it right in my solana but ti works well. the mp10 is the only pump i'm using and its all the flow I need in my 34 gal so i think something is wrong with yours.
are you using the spacer? have you tried it without the spacer? can you noticed a big difference between 25% and 75%?

lets see here. i got it from bigal's used the coupon code. NANOREEF got it down to 175 from 195. yeah you can see a difference between the two, i tried it first without and then with the spacer. there was good flow say about 1/2 way across the tank. then less on the far left. i've got some hair algae so i can tell where the flow isn't what it should be but i honestly thought it was going to be WAY stronger. i mean maxed out at 1575gph thats 180x turn over. its should be cranking. now i've got it ~2" from the top and 3" from the front cuz of the way i had to rearrange the rock its got better flow but i haven't tested it with the ditritus to see where the flow is going and how fast its moving. should i clear the memory and see if that helps pump it back up to full strength. or could this be a mfg. malfunction?
now at max i can get it to form a whirl pool from the top but its not constantly there but the water is deffinately moving.

http://www.bigalsonline.com/ has it for $175 w/ coupon code 'NANOREEF'. Just got mine about 3 days ago

I too have the exact opposite experience I have the MP10 es on a biocube 14 and if I go above 35%, a sandstorm develops.
At 100% the fish would be pinned against the side wall, and sand would be completely suspended.
It also makes a pretty loud hum at full throttle.
I can post a video if you want when i get home.
Something must be wrong.
Are you able to post a video for us to see?

I got mine for 165 since my lfs does a monthly coupon for 30% off one aquatic item

But gabe im guessing its because of that big rock if anything. Also some modes take a while to get to there peak flow. Try the constant mode (green light) and crank it up to 100% . That really should be flowing water all over the place. In my 15 its too much flow at 75% so im not exactly sure what the problem is if its not the rock or you are using one of the modes that takes a long time to get to its peak. Also i can get water to spill out of my tank using short pulse wave. so thats a wave thats higher than 1.5" and a total of 3"

ok so i figured it out. its good. plenty of flow now. it was the rock work keeping the flow restricted.so after a few rescapes i think i've got it down. got kind of a rockwall/island thing going on right now.
pics later at my tank thread.

You picked up the MP10ES from BigAls for $~175? The ES is the one with the white box, new model. Most places are selling 'em for ~$220. If it is the ES model you got a smoking deal. You can find the first generation models for $150-175.

Yeap it was the ES model. The new one.
I just checked, and big als has already raised the price back up to $220!
Price was 194 when I bought it, minus the 10% off = $175 w/ free ship.
Guess I did get a good deal
