I have had the 9002 on my Solana 34 gallon for about 6 months. I had a aqua c remora on their before and the skim produced with the Tunze has never been the same as I got with the aqua C. For those using this, I have a few questions.

I'm curious what sort of skim, and how much (I know this will very with each tank) skim the Tunze 9002 is producing for you?

How do you know how to adjust the dial? I have never understood when I have the skimmer "dialed" in correctly.

How often do you clean out the cup? (i have the stevie T cup) and how often do you pull the entire skimmer out and clean it?

Thanks!

Mine pulls a few inches of green skimmate a week.Dialing it in is easy.Get it to where you are just getting a little skimmate a day them give the dial a quarter turn till it starts to fill the cup more. Do this every day till it is perfect. But I have heard a Aqua C produces more than a Tunze hands down.I clean my cup every 5 days or so.I make sure the inside of the neck is real clean.

I'm curious how much "a little more" is. How do you know if it is open to much vs open to little? Will one produce to much foam, the other not enough?

Also, how often do you pull the entire unit out, clean the pump, etc?
Lawnman
Open to much you will get light green water and the cup will fill quickly. To little and you won't get much skimmate at all. Find the happy medium. I pull mine out and clean it about every 3-4 months.

I dialed mine in until the bubbles started rising half way up the neck of the cup. I love this skimmer. You also have to make sure your water level stays constant in order to get the best skimate.

If turning the knob doesn't seem to make any difference what does that mean? Is something not lined up inside?

It produces some skim mate but not much.
Lawnman
If turning the knob doesn't do anything take it apart and check the tube for food or debris.

Thanks. I will try that.

If turning the knob doesn't make a difference (you should see and hear a difference - even with a quarter turn) then make sure the air-tube inside is not pinched. This happened to me and my solve was to cut a quarter inch of the tube off.

I clean the cup every 3-4 days and take the skimmer out and thoroughly clean every few months. Just gave it a good cleaning yesterday so mine is getting dialed back in right now. One thing I did notice this cleaning was some blockage in the clear plastic elbow, so I used the pipe-cleaner 'thing' that came with it and cleared that gunk out - so watch for that in the future.

Any one had an experience with this skimmer where it is producing bubbles, but the bubbles seem too large? No mater what level I keep my water, or how closed or open I adjust the screw the unit seems to be putting out either huge wet bubbles that don't develop skimmate, or smaller bubbles that can't get anything going either.

I'm not sure what could be the issue. I've removed and gone all over it. The only thought I had is that maybe water is somehow getting into the airline and disrupting the size of the bubble mixture, but that may not even may sense for this skimmer design.

Let it run for a few days after disturbing the skimmer. They work best when not tweeked and are allowed to settle in.

This is the same issue I'm having now, big wet bubbles, I'm wondering if I made a mistake buying this tunze skimmer. I didn't like the aqua c remora either due to not being able to adjust the bubbles. Ahhhh, why can't things just work anymore.
