Can anyone tell me how to tell the difference?
Nemo Niblets
Low light, red planet turns greener. Also, they are a different species. The red planet is supposed to be a table acro, but it never tables as well as true acropora hyacinthus(tabling acro).

I'll get a pic of mine that I neglected and left in low light for a while. It has no red at all.

What color did yours turn Nibs?
skp
Im sure when it grows out itll be easier to tell.
right now i have a 1 inch frag. i bought it thinking that it was a red planet but it looks so much like a rose mille too. i wouldnt mind both corals but ive been saving this one spot on my rock specifically for a red planet. Id want to get it off and place it somewhere else before it encrusts onto the rock if it isnt a red planet.

heres a pic
thanks

That's a red planet. How much light is it getting?
skp
ok so i just got it yesterday. It was already kind of losing its color.
its about 5.5 inches directly under a 150 watt metal halide 14000k
so its about 3.5 inches from the water surface and then another 2 inches to the actual bulb.

The red planet is red with deeper greens and a greener base (depending on the amount of light it is in). Rose millepora is more of a pinkish color, sometimes even orangish with some green at the base and sometimes at the growth tips.

Thats the #1 coral on my wanted list.

mine looks different. if you look at the bumps that the polyps come out of. i dont know what those are called but mine seem more pronounced like they are on a millepora. Also, the polyps on mine have one really long tentacle in the middle of the polyp. is there a distinguishing factor there?

I have both corals and thay are almost next to each other. I can see a definite difference between them. I must have hit that "sweet" spot as far as placing it goes. My red planet has the strawberry red polyps while it has the deep green base. You can really see the green base under actinic lighting. I bought mine shortly after ORA released it and it has tabled very nicely. Unlike I mount most of my acros, I glued my frag sideways on the rock.

Here is a FTS. The red planet in on the right, the rose millie is behind it. I'll try to get a close-up shot later.

Nice RP colony. I've bought a frag of it 2 months ago. Can't wait till mine grows out like that.

my red planet is green in low light and red/pink in high light. my rose millie is bright metallic pink and looks like well, a millie.

Here's a small frag I got for free, was brown, but now its red and green. I left it on the plug so I can play around with height and positioning for best colorig

maybe color will be the quickest way to tell?
i cant wait for growth...
im target feeding brightwell coral amino.
hopefully the colors come back in time.

heres a better picture.

ok so its day 4 and the pink tip is turning more of a crimson red.
However, the polyps have this one long tentacle like on a mille but on some of the pictures of red planets on the internet i can see this one long tentacle as well.
