Im going to my lfs today to start and "acan garden" i think that is what its calls with all one type of coral together. anyway im posting to ask if there is anything i should know before i put acan close to eachother. also what is the best food for acans i want to start spot feeding them.

They will grow both on a rock, and on the sand. On the rock, they will grow a little quicker because they don't have to use energy to create their own skeleton, they can just encrust.

Give them a little room so that they grow.

I would say mysis is one the best foods you can feed an acan.

I noticed your in Sac... What LFS are you going too? I'd check out Aqua Life in Rocklin. They usually have a decent selection of Acan's and at reasonable prices. Exotic has some nice ones too, but their tanks haven't been looking too hot. However, I did buy a few acan frags from them several months ago and they're doing well. Best bet to fine the best acans is post a "Looking for" thread on the Marine Aquarist Roundtable of Sacramento website (MARS). I've picked up some really nice micros and you could find some nice acans from some of the reefers.

I usually feed my acans mysis 3 days a week. I also feed them silversides and krill every once and a while to change things up, but mysis works great.

You could put the same species of acans together like lords, but don't put acan echinata's next to lords. They'll fight... I've had my micromussa's next to my lords without problems. Like Nemo Nibets said, make sure you space them apart to grow.

Have fun putting your garden together

I feed mine a couple times a week. Just cyclopis and coral food cubes mixed together and they seem to love it. My garden needs a pruning here pretty soon. Post some pics of the pieces you end up gettin. smile.gif
