My zoas have been slowly deteriorating over the past month. They are not fully closed but almost and they seem to be shriveling and just appear to be dying off. I have tried just about everything. The tank is over a year old and my params are good. The zoas were thriving before this and I didn't add anything new. Did a huge water change a couple days ago but nothing. All other corals in the tank are good and the zoas are about three different kinds that make up a huge colony. I gave a friend a frag of the zoas to see if they thrived in his system but they never opened and r dying also. I replaced my bulbs about a week ago cause they were over a year old thinking that may be the issue. Any ideas?

Parameters?
Pics?
Recent changes?
Have you dipped? (if so, what did you dip them in and what is your method?)
Have you inspected for pests?

Answer some of the key questions and upload a pic and we may be able to help you save these bad boys!

Surely you must have changed something or added something to the tank that they don't like.

Zoanthids will not thrive for months and then suddently die for no reason. Either you added something to the tank and some parasites with it, or they are lacking something important. Since they do not recover in your friend's tank, I am thinking they have some disease. As asked, we need more info on your parameters etc.. any recent addition?

Yeah it would be good to get more info. I was having similar issues with my zoas not growing and/or getting smaller. Last week I replaced the chemipure elite and now they look much better. If you're like me you may not test for phosphates, which cp elite helps filter out. If not and you think that might be the issue, have your lfs test it for you or get a kit. I've also heard that low magnesium can cause issues with them.

Hope it helps.

This is the tank shortly before I started seeing a problem.

These two pics are as of now.

I have replaced the Chemipure elite. The only thing I can even think of was I had a red slime problem and used Chemiclean red slime remover. I used it like I was supposed to and did the water changes. The only thing I test for is Nitrates, Nitrites, Ammonia, and PH. All are perfect. I also dose with Kent Marine Nano Reef Part A and B. I want my beautiful tank back.

Can you test for alkalinity or calcium? How about specific gravity? I wouldn't dose for things you can't test for.

Also did you replace a bulb recently? Did you loose a fish or an invert? Is your powerhead still functional?

Are those mushrooms starting to grow over the colony in the 'after' picture?
