Full Version: Oyster Feast vs. Golden Pearls

The Velvet Sea
I've been reading and am thinking more about feeding my Acropora. My nano is fishless and I'm thinking it might be too low in organic nutrients for the corals. I've decided to try either Reef Nutrition's Oyster Feast or Golden Pearls from Brine Shrimp Direct. I've heard good things about both. When I weigh the pluses and minuses, my choice seems to lean heavily in favor of Golden Pearls.

Golden Pearls 5-50 micron size : Oyster Feast 1-200 micron size
Golden Pearls are dry with a long shelf life : Oyster Feast has a quicker expiration and must be refrigerated
Golden Pearls are extremely cheap : Oyster Feast is a bit more expensive but still afordable

Does anyone have an opinion on these foods?

I have both and like both. I got the Kens golden pearl though, as BSD were real thieves for shipping charge!

I compared the ingredients and went with this:

very cheap and nice food.

Oyster feast need to be in the fridg and it is really expensive. Unfortunatly I do not see any feeding response from the oyster feast from my blueberry gorgonian. I do see a response from the golden pearl. I got 5 to 50 micron food and 50 to 100 microns.

Another advantage of golden pearl is that it can be preserved longer so that one can use it in a dosing system to dose with it white in vacation, or use an automatic food dispensor. I cannot do that with oyster feast.

Another very good product for feeding coral and the one I see the best feeding response is Fauna Marin Ultra Seafan and Ultra Min F. Both are also in powder and only a small pinch is required in 100 gallons.

Thanks for the input! I'll look into Kensfish and Fauna Marin.

how big are these golden pearl bags? Shipping is kind of high for a 1/4th lb bag, I'm sure it would fit in a flat rate usps $5 envelope.

Shipping a 1/4 lb. bag with USPS from Kensfish is only $5.35 for me.
Total comes to $11.30 for 112 grams shipped

Brine Shrimp Direct sells 51 gram bag for $5.95 plus $6.30 shipping.
That comes to $12.25 for 51 grams shipped.

Kensfish looks to be the clear winner. Twice as much for a dollar less. Shipping seems affordable to me...

I placed an order with Kensfish. It's hard to say no to a deal like that. Thanks for the tip Dani3d!
