Hello All,

I just picked up some pulsing xenia from someone on a forum along with a piece of toadstool. I know the Xenia can spread like weeds and a lot of people seem to hate them but people still have them in their tanks.

I have a 12G Nano Cube DX that has been going for about 1 1/2 months. I have placed the Xenia in the tank but now I am wondering if maybe I should take it out because I fear it may "take over" the tank.

I am not sure what to do. Looking for other peoples advise/input.

I like the way it looks but I also would like to keep other things in the tank.

Thanks!

It is easy to remove them, plus you can always sell them. And, they remove nitrates. I think they are beautiful.

They dont grow THAT fast, you have a long time to make that decision. If you trim it once a month you should be fine.

Excellent!

I also think they are beautiful!

Once a month would not be a problem. Thank you!

Go for it. The pulsing action is really neat and especially when the pumps are off or it's in low flow the movement adds a lot to a tank.

Even though it grows like a weed, it can also be removed and sold/whatever.

Is it the red sea pom pom xenia or the xenia elongata? The elongata you probably don't want since it gets very stretchy and gross, and can grow extremely quickly. The red sea pom pom xenia is actually my favorite coral out of any of them, and tends to grow more slowly and stay shorter and stockier.

If you have some space on your sand bed, you might try to put it on a small rock island away from your main rocks. That's what I'm doing with my xenia. I'm hoping it works - I've only had it for a few weeks so far. smile.gif I do love the pulsing too.

I love mine, by far my favorite coral. Just put it on it's own rock and it will be easy to control. Also I keep mine by the glass and when it spreads it almost always spreads to the glass and then i can just peal it off w/ a glass scraper and put it on a frag plug with a rubber band. It usually attaches to the plug overnight. Works like a charm every time.
