Hi,

I am beginning to set up a 110 gallon tank (48"L x 18"W x 30"H) and need some suggestions on lighting.

I have been looking at these:

48” x 8 Bulb Sunlight Supply TEK Light T5 Fixture

I would like to do a mixed LPS / SPS tank.

Any recommendation on lighting? Would the fixture mentioned above be sufficient?

Thanks in advance

Your tank is incredibly high and T5s are going to have a hard time penetrating to 30 inches. Generally 30" tanks are in the realm of 400W MHs. If you are going to go with T5s, go with an 8 bulb Powermodule. The TEK is nice, but it is also wider than the tank itself and lacks active cooling which is a bit of a problem when you are running 400Ws of T5s.

This. Being only 18" you are going to have trouble squeezing 8 bulbs over the tank. I would go 2x400w MH in a hood with 2-3 short T5s for actinic

T5---MH---T5---MH---T5

Something like that is what I would do.

Thanks for the feedback.

I hadn't had time to look at the dimensions of the TEK, i was more or less just considering an 8 bulb T5 fixture

I am pretty good at DIY jobs so i was originally considering doing my own hood with 2x 250W MH and supplement that with T5's.

The dual 400W must be a killer on the electricity bill. From what i understand 30" high is deep, but if i go with a deep sand bed (about 6") the tank is only 24" deep....

If i went 2x 250w MH with T5s, how bad do you think the lighting would be at the bottom of the tank?

Getting the ATI powermodule will likely be enough on its own. The tank depth may also mean you can keep some LPS that don't like very strong lighting at the bottom.
