Full Version: What's the best way to fix dead zones in my scape?

So while trying to siphon flatworms, I figure out that a lot of detritus is accumulating in the center of my tank because of it's scape, which is a big overhang to the left and rocks to the right with a bridge across the front. I thought fish might swim through the bowl in the middle. So far I'm wrong...but I'm trying not to rearrange. Please refer to bad sketch below.

I've got a Koralia 1, Hydor Flo on the return for a 24g tank.
Brown spots are dead/slow flow zones.

Ideas so far are...
Spot 1) add a Koralia pointed down into the bowl
Spot 2) add a Koralia pointed through a narrow crevice in the back
Spot 3) add a Koralia pointed up to increase flow all over
Spot 4) add a Koralia lower on the right, pointed up or pointed to the back
Replace Koralia on the left with a mp10 and crank it up.

Thanks!

Vesian
+1 on the MP10 idea.

You can go spend 180 bucks on the MP10 and no doubt fix your problem or perhaps spend 60 on two Koralias and have the same result, just a matter of budget and whether or not you mind the look of the equipment in your tank

Really, I'd need 2 more Koralias or 2 total?
I'd be fine with 1 more if it can tuck away in spot 1 or 2.

I forgot to mention I shoved some macroalgae in the back behind the rock... maybe that was a bad idea too.

have you tried just removing the hydor flo?

Haha no, it's never occurred to me. I'll try taking it out.

Without the flo, it's better across the front but the bowl in the middle is still pretty dead.

What if I put in a very small pump behind the rocks and thread a hose into the bowl? If this idea is the winner, can anyone suggest a pump?

MP10 comes to mind just get one and watch everything grow< LOL You really should try another Koralia and just move the pumps around until it looks just right.

Well I'm trying to reserve my budget in April for a RO/DI... though the MP10 seems magically delicious. I'd hate to get one and then realize it's still not going to reach into the bowl and be stuck again.

I'll try wiggling rocks and move the macro.

If it's still bad in a week or two, I'll try a pico sized adjustable pump threaded into the bowl. It's hard to figure out how to point a new koralia into the bowl. unless i mount it in the front of the display

clever aquascaping not so clever now. :-(
