This one was a temporary resident in my aquarium. It is a spiny box puffer / striped burrfish (Chilomycterus schoepfi) With this fish, the spines are always "out", it is not inflated in the pics below.

Great looking fish. I'm considering one of those for after I upgrade the 55 to a 125.

He was just too big for the Caribbean tank that I had him in, so back into the ocean he went. (I returned him to the same place where I caught him)

Do these puffers have as much of a personality as porcupines?
VicSkimmr
All puffers are personable fish.

They definitely have personality, I've never had a porcupine though, so I can't compare them.

They do this as a defense mechanism to scare away predators.

I know that but mine is in a tank by himself and does it randomly, not just when he is scared.

I saw a wicked cool black with white spots box fish today,
and a nice spotted puffer.
I want one so bad.

Amazing pic!

Thanks, and mine is in my softy tank, full marine. These fish are born in freshwater, juveniles in brackish and spend their adult lives in full SW.
