My 38g tank will have two clownfish in a few weeks. I am thinking about adding a anemone in my tank when the tank is mature enough.

There are two fire shrimps in tank and zoas, torch corals etc. I have never kept anemone before, so I'm a noob, but like to give it a try.

So what anemone would you recommend? Thanks

*IF* the tank is more than 6 months old then you can consider a bubble tip. Take a look at http://www.karensroseanemones.net/ for information you will need to have before doing this.

Keep in mind though that they get very very big, will sting your other corals, clowns (if they are tank bred and they should be or else you open yourself up to a host of potential problems) don't always host anemone's, and they can/will move from where you want them usually right into a power head or right where you don't want them.

LTA or Bubbletip are nice. Don't get a condy (Haitian). They rarely host clowns.

You will also need lots of light.

Thanks for the input guys. I really appreciated.

Ummm... it seems trouble to me. First of all, I have two tank bred clownfish. Secondly I dont like the fact or a possibility that anemone will move around sting other animal in the tank. Third, I have 4x39w HO T5 lighting system, the tank is 20" tall, not sure that would be enough light for the anemone.

Why so many people like to keep anemone in the tank? The reason I want to try to keep one is because I never had one before in my life. biggrin.gif

unsure.gif In a post on Feb 28 2010, you already had Clowns... What happened to them?

Sadly to say I lost 3 small clownfish to Brooklynella because I thought I bought the fish from a good vendor and didn't quarantine. Now I have two new ones in my 10G QT tank, the DT has been running fishless for a month.

Thats good. You need to run another two to four weeks before moving the clowns just be safe.

Your lighting is fine for an anemone.

You can try to keep it where you want it by using a plastic strawberry crate as well as putting it on a rock that is surrounded by sand as well as far enough away from a tank side that it can't grip.

People have them usually for two reasons in my opinion. 1) They like them, want to have them, and are experienced enough to take care of them 2) They think a clown needs an anemone and/or want the "Nemo" experience and get one

The first reason tends to work out well for both the anemone and the human. The second doesn't.

Thanks for the input. I won't add any fish to my DT until mid April. I will think about adding a anemone, probably more research before I decide.

'nem would be fine. Read Karen's site. Its got good info. Take it with a grain of salt though. She is wrong on a few things.

Because overall its a good primer for anemone care. Things she is wrong about would be things like only under MH and the like.
