sweet design.

as far as on topic i've never used sketch up. just autodesk inventor 2008 and 2011 along with autocad '04, '11. and vectorwork (mini-cad) and back in 02 i learned maya. i need to pick up 3ds max.

i've never fully applied any of my drafts to aquariums though... sounds like i know what i'm doing in my down time. when ever that may be.

Scetchup should be a breeze for you than. You'll have to post some of it when you get it done.

i'll get to play with it someday.

This is something I conjured up the other night. It's an aquaponics cabinet that uses vegetable plants for nutrient export. I figured this would be a cool self contained unit. I didn't draw any plumbing or the grow light. I'd have an overflow up top and a return pump from the bottom after the water flows through the growth medium.

It's fresh water, of course, but I'd like to see some opinions.

Really want to build this...

I'm not sure why it won't let me upload anything right now but I'm working on it. Last night I went through and finished the whole model with .5" glass completely. I don't think I'm going to go through with this tank because I just got quoted at $1k+ from glass cages and I don't think it would come out like I want. I just don't know if I have the guts to build a 160g tank on my own...

I'll keep looking for now!

autodesk inventor '08

testing the LED array for blending and deg of optics. this is 24 leds 16 RB 8 NW with 60° 18" from the bottom of the tank

UM glass cages would probably do a worse job than my 2 year old. are there any other glass shops you could get a quote from. maybe check with nano-paul on what to expect.

I have been playing with sketchup for 3 hours now and can't get it to do what I want..... I even sat through the tutorials. Anyone willing to sketchup something for me? smile.gif

Found another guy locally (hour away) that has pretty reasonable prices. I'm going to speak with a few other guys about possibly just getting the glass and building it myself. I can get some help with the build from another guy that has built tanks before but isn't exactly a tank builder.

I'm definitely trying to find options other than going through glass cages especially after going from a 72x24x16 to a 72x30x16 cost me MORE than double the price of the smaller tank. $715 to $1470. Seriously. I could get two of the 72x24 tanks for LESS than adding a few square feet of glass and they build them with the same glass size and bracing styles. Are they serious?!

I use sketchup, autocad, and revit on a daily basis but not for aquaria. It would be really cool if people took the time to model components like plumbing pieces, powerheads, other equipment and uploaded to 3d warehouse so that others could build their systems more easily. If I ever do any legit Austin stuff I'll Br sure to add anything I do.

Revit?? It's all about Archicad. JK smile.gif
