Full Version: Hydor FLO Rotating Deflector (Question on flow rate)

On my BC 14, I'm planning on replacing the stock pump on the filter with a Maxi-Jet 900 and then installing a hydor flo, my question is what kind of flow rate should I expect since I hear the hydor flow really decreases water flow.

Will it be the same as the stock pump, or better?. Hopefully it wont be worse.

30% less flow +/-. Better flow than the stock.

+1, mine just stopped working because of coralline growth. WIth stock i never need to clean the sprayer, but with Hydor it reduces flow as well as breaks down once every 2 months
Just add a K-nano. works much better imo plus its not ttoo much flow.

i have a maxi-jet 900 with a hydor flo in my nano cube 12. go to my tank thread (in my signature) and there are some videos there. before i had the stock duckbill and there was toooo much flow coming out of it, so i bought a hyrdor flo and yea it decreased the flow a bit, but now im considering a maxi-jet 600 for my tank

I saw your youtube video the other day. your tank looks nice.
it all depends on what type of corals you have. I have SPS and anemones in my NC 12 so the corals demands good flow but a Hydor restricts a lot of flow which have caused my anemone to walk around my tank when my k-nano is in sleep mode.

The solution to that is to keep the k-nano on wink.gif.

Yeah, your tank looks nice. But you didn't exactly capture much of the hydor flo, I saw it on the top right in the first video but that was about it.

Thanks for the replies everyone!.

It will be better than stock. I've got the exact same thing going on and there is DEFINITELY better flow than it was stock. The corals and fish also look better with the current changes.

I do also have a koralia nano on the other side of the tank, but even what the hydor hits moves quite a bit. So you might lose some of the flow of the 900. Quality > quantity.
