i have a brain coral in my tank..i have cleared room around it to add it in there..my tank has alot of zoas/palys in it...and the brain is nice and happy but it is touching one of my zoa polyps a little..is this ok?
i will be soon moving everything over to a 50 gallon so the brain will have plenty of room on the sand bed...
thanks!

Closed or open brain? I recently got a closed maze brain about the size of a baseball. I put it about 6 inches below the surface under my 36W of T5 (over a 7.5G tank) and it seems to be doing well - but I had to clear more space around it than I had expected. It's sweeper tentacles are more than 2 inches long and stung a paly the second night it was in the tank....
That means your configuration could be a problem. I ended up moving the palys closer to 2 inches away and kept the couple nearer corals under close watch - it seems like the flow in the tank keeps the sweepers off though. If your zoas/palys get stung you will notice. There will be a long connecting filament between them and you will get the characteristic paly toxin smell in the tank and in the room it's in, thankfully it doesn't nuke the tank

I have kept many types of brains over the years and from my experience it's best to error on the side of caution with them touching other coral. Though this doesn't mean there will be problems if you don't, it's best not to risk it. This is probably more true of open brains too since during the day they inflate, sometimes to much larger sizes than at night. Besides, who likes dead or dying coral right?

thanks guys!
i think mine is an open brain...and so far so good, none of my zoas are showing any signs of being aggrivated or sick...
i am hoping to be able to move it out of the biocube as soon as my 50 gallon cycles...i will be using 50-60lbs of live rock so hopefully that will speed the cycle up...
also once the 50 gallon has water in it, can i take out some of the live rock out of my biocube 14? right now i have close to 20lbs in there and can use the extra space...
thanks!!

You can use rock from the 14 in the 50 after the 50 cycles also I keep my brains on the sand this way if they fall off the rocks they won't get damaged

do i have to wait for the 50 to cycle to put the rock from the 14 in there? i plan on getting fully cured live rock for the 50, so i was thinking of removing some of the rock in my biocube for a little more room for everything, and also to make a little room for the plate coral i have coming ....i have the brain on the sand, i dont want it to fall off and get damaged
thanks!!

i am getting fully cured live rock...sorry i am just a little confused, if the rock i am putting from the 14 into the 50 has no corals what can it hurt? not adding any corals to the 50 just rock....
sorry dont want to seem like a pain, but i need to make a little more room in my 14 to keep a few more corals happy till the 50 is cycled...
thanks!!

+1, plus their flesh can get cut on the rocks, so most of the time they tend to do better on the sandbed. For a much quicker cycle you can try bio-spira as well

You might get some die off on the new rock. During transfer from store to home or where ever it is coming from.
Maybe some one else could chime in. i just like to be safe and not have things from the rock from the 14die cause of a little cycle from the newer rocks . Again I am not an expert I started with dry rock then added my cycled rock from another tank when all was good with params.

ah ok i gotcha now...
i will be transporting rock no longer than an hour at most....
it will be in rubbermaid tubs with water so i might not get too much die off....
also i dont mind if the live stuff on the rock i take out of the biocube dies off, as i know there is plenty more to cover it

i just need to remove a few pieces of rock, my biocube is maxed out on space....
thanks!!
