ok so here is the question. Since i have not fragged anything really and this is my display coral I want to be sure that this basic task is done correctly.

Here is the coral..

so I want to take if off the frag plug for a couple reasons.

1) i dont really care for the frag plug look in my display
2) it has some red bubbles I initially thought were Macro but now are looking not so good (no stems between bubbles) (frag came shipped with the bubbles on the plug)

so the question is:
When i take the razorblade and cut the stem of the mushroom from the frag plug. Can i attach that cut side to the rockwork and will it attach fine like that, or do i need to attach a side of the stem to the rockwork?

I would think the stem would heal onto the rock the same but just want to be sure.

If you take the toadstool off of that rock you're going to need to put it into a bowl or cup of rubble rock in your tank until it attaches, and then you can glue the piece of rubble that it ends up attaching to onto your rockwork. It may be more trouble than it's worth, but if you don't like the frag plug look then it's worth it. If you're just worried about the algae though you can razor scrape the algae off the rock...

Cool thx for the reply. I am watching the algae to see what it does. I moved it a bit today and when i did i inspected it a bit more closely. The bubble area are firm and not slimey. I would expect cyano to be soft slimey bubbles. So I am just gonna wait and watch. There is a neat yellow sponge growing on the plug as well so I am having 2nd thoughts on cutting it off the plug. In time it may just over grow the plug and not even matter.

Oh, don't get me wrong, they'll spread, I just don't mind them and they're not very invasive. If you don't want them elsewhere in your tank I'd scrape them off of that rock though.
