question for those who have torch corals in your tanks: What temperature do you keep your water at?
My tank with the MH lights on never goes below 81-82 degrees. I've had a torch coral for a couple weeks now and it has never really fully extended. However, today I accidentally kept my fan on and fell asleep and the temps dropped to 77.5 degrees, and I looked and the torch was much more extended than it usually is. I dont know if this was due to the lower temps or it has just finally gotten comfortable and is starting to open up now. Liveaquaria lists 71-78 degrees for torches, but theres no way i'm keeping my temps that low.
So I was just wondering who has a happy torch and what temps you keep your tank. Thanks!

Mine is growing, happy, and fully extended at a constant 80 degrees. Where did you place the Torch in your tank? low, mid, or high?

Now, I don't have any.. but from all I read 77-78 is what you want to shoot for for corals. Check out the online vendors, most give you a recommended temp.
Why can't you keep the temp that low?

right now my torch is in high light and medium flow. I have 150 watts MH 20k radium about 10 inches above the water surface. at night the temps drop to around 78. so its basically my light thats causing temps to rise up to 82 or even higher, i always switch the fan on before it goes any higher than that.
what i meant by no way im keeping my temps that low was regarding the 71ish degree temps. Also, i cant get my temps lower than 77ish even if i tried. I would need a chiller. I have a maxi jet 1200 and a mh on a 20 gal tank.

80, moderate light, moderate flow, extends great. Sand bed under 96w t5.

you might have your torch placed too high in your tank. they are pretty tough, and I doubt temp is your issue. I have mine in the sand bed. Torch's can be fed but they mainly grow off of photosynthesis. So if it placed really high in the tank it may not extend because it is receiving to much light.
Also, a slow moderate flow will help. If your current is too strong it will retract.

my torch is in my sand bed, cant get it any lower than that lol. I had it off to the side away from direct light for a week, then moved it once to direct light. meh, we'll see i guess. i'll give it some more time
