Guys,

I noticed one of my zoas was releasing some dark brown stringy substance from the center of the polyp. What are they? It happened while the lights were on and polyps were fully open.

My GSP has been very shy for the past few days. I'm not sure this is related to the zoa releasing stuff.

Thanks

+1 to poop
My zoa does that. Only certain types.

I wouldn't call it poop dry.gif

It's excess Zooxanthellae that your coral is expelling. Excess light causes the Zooxanthellae to reproduce rapidly and their increased number causes an increase in the oxygen level due to the increased in photosynthesis that could be fatal to the coral. Thus, they expel the excess Zooxanthellae.

Thanks guys. Do I need to do anything about that? It sounds like the zoa is getting a bit too much light?

My other zoas don't have that issue tho.

it's fine and normal.

So, to sum it up it is discharging waste material. I like to call that pooping but you can call it expelling excess Zooxanthellae...
