Sorry for the poor picture. I don't have a big zoom yet, and I have yet to see it completely out of the LR. The hole that it is in is ~1/4 inch for scale. Hopefully, I'll catch it out soon to get a better picture. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Does it look like it recognizes you?
Justind823
Sure is. You can definitely make out the raptorial appendages in that picture. Looks like pretty cool coloring too. If you don't want it I'll take it off your hands, PM me.

EDIT:
It might not be a baby mantis at all, could be a smaller species of stomatopod.
bruce922
No doubt that it definitley a baby mantis, just kidding, I really dont see anything. Would be cool though if it was.

It hasn't called me by name yet wink.gif . But seriously, I have only see it pop its head out. When I was trying to get pictures of it, it wasn't really hiding though so it didn't seem terribly scared.

Well I thought it looked like one, but I haven't heard anything coming from the tank and it is only in the beginning of the cycle so there are no inverts/fish to go missing so I was just wanting a second opinion. If I can catch him, you are welcome to him. I'm wanting a reef so I would rather not have something eating my cleanup crew. If I had the money to do another small tank I would set it up for him, but that's not in the cards right now.
Justind823
I'm sure it is one. What kind of tank do you have? If you have a sump going you could always through it there. Otherwise I'm more than willing to take it off your hands happy.gif

Are you familiar with the bottle trap? See if you can get it with the trap, that is if you cant net it.

Def a mantis - you can see his "clubs"

I've got a 14g biocube. Just wanting to do a small AIO really. Just something pretty to look at more than anything.

I had heard of it and looked it up this afternoon. I'm going to try to set it up tonight and see if I can catch the little guy. If I catch him, I could probably have him shipped out tomorrow afternoon cool.gif

Well I finally caught my mantis! Justind has first dibs as promised (message should be in your inbox). If he doesn't want him anymore, anyone who does can have him for the cost of shipping. He is 1" long and is a pinkish color.

SoCalDude
He is an awesome looking little guy!
