Full Version: Clownfish with popeye?

A few weeks ago I noticed one of my clownfish eye was starting to bulge out. It was only affecting one eye. It looked clear, but it was just bulging. I didn't really think it was popeye so I treated him with epsom salts. I used 1 TBSP per 5 gal. I figured my female clown had just beat him up.

After a week of treatment, he still wasn't improving so I moved them to my hospital tank and treated with Maracyn. Today is the 5th day of treatment and his eye looks exactly the same as it did a few weeks ago.

At this point I have no idea what it is, or what to do. Thanks for your help.

Did you do a search for popeye as it is something you have to treat. Popeye will only get worse if left untreated.

Did you read my 1st post where I outlined what I have been doing unsuccessfully to treat the condition? I have pretty much followed the general consensus on how to treat the issue. I was looking for further input.

Yes infact I did read your first post and that is not working for you is it. My apologies for trying to assist you, you obviously got it under control.

The link that you provide gave the same course of treatment that I have already followed. Unless I am missing something, how is that helpful?

Maybe if you remove that stick from you butt, your clownfish's eye might pop back in.
When others attempt to assist you, you might want to be just alittle nicer, oh and you try to be physic next time someone sends you a link and guess weather or not they have already seen it. But hey big guy you have it all under control.

Lather - rinse - repeat? huh.gif

You said that you had it in QT but did you have anything that could potentially have filtered the magnesium from the water? I'm not a biologist but I think that is the active ingerdient that you are trying to use if its a bacterial infection.

Hope its doing well.

The Maracyn that I have been using is an anti-bacterial med as far as I know.

The Maracyn states that a 2nd round could be used. I guess that would be my only option at this point. Would I do a large water change in the QT tank before starting the 2nd round, or just keep adding the meds to the existing water? The only thing I have in the tank is a sponge filter, a heater, and a powerhead.

do a 25% w/c before the second treatment. make sure all water parameters are good. I had the same issue with my freshwater fish before and it healed itself after multiple w/cs.
