i placed an order with reefcleaners 50 lb box. i understand that it is dry rock and will need to seed . what would be the best ratio. by the way what a deal less than a 100 bones delivered
The "best" ratio would be as high an amount of live rock as possible/practical. You don't "need" a lot (say ~20%), but more live is definitely better (technically, you could do it without it altogether, but I don't recommend it). I would preferably shoot more along the lines of 50/50 or an even larger skew toward live rock. Of course, depending on your planned structure, you may not need a lot to begin with. My tank's structure, for example (also a 40 breeder) only has 20-25 lbs. of actual rock. I had a bit left over that went into the sump (about 10-15 lbs). I like low, minimalist rock structures, though.
