I will be hosting my first frag swap in a couple of weeks and am looking for a little input from people that have enjoyed them!!
1st off i guess anyone travelling to alberta is welcome to come on over!! I'm thinkin no-one on this forum is remotely close enough though!!

kind of just want a few suggestions and ideas for making it a success?? Theres never been a swap of any sort here so a few of us are gonna try and do it up!!

let me know anythings people liked, disliked, or would like to see please!!

There are many forms of Frag Swaps depending how your local club functions. In the Greater San Francisco Area we have two local fish and reef clubs and many neighboring clubs surrounding us. For the most part we carry each club slightly Different one is more formal and Educational while the other is more of a laid back family and friends get together on a forum of related or non related topics.

Both Clubs now have the same type of swap given rounds with a minimum of 3 frags to participate or frags that could be also purchased through our local sponsor.

Food wise would be pot luck style where members of the site can offer to bring a dish that serves up 6 to 10 people. Food is always plenty and has a variety for many reefers.

Location is one factor you would like to keep in mind how many people and demographics in regards to other reefers in your area. Some spots can be a house a public space or even a local fish store. Our laid back club host their frag swaps at several local fish store locations based on sponsorship. This seems to work with smaller groups and if the store is big enough or has good parking space to host the event at. Fish stores will get exposure and increased sales that day plus the club would get a place to host the swap at.

sounds very similar to most ideas, but what i'm more looking for would be ideas on different ways to conduct the actual swapping, basically trying to keep some sort of method behind it. We've got a few ideas floating around outside of the personel swapping like: Everyone that comes brings an extra frag for the community tank and as you drop your frag in you get a number then at the end of all the swapping you get to pick one out as your number is drawn.
I dunno just looking for ways to make it fun.

drawings for free coral and stuff and raffles for bigger things

Maybe if you randomly attached raffle tickets to each container for the swap. After the swap is finished you draw the ticket and whoever picked the frag that has the winning ticket on the container gets a really nice coral that someone brought in. Just a thought that might make someones day.

what if you get your own frag, that would suck

We do a community tank where you bring up to 3 nice frags and get a number for each frag you put into the tank. We then call the numbers after everyone has had a chance to socialize and munch on the potluck goodies. When your number is called you get to pic one item from the tank. The higher your number of course the more you have to choose from, but it is random and have never had any complaints.

You aren't supposed to think of these things.

If it is a nice piece then I bet you can trade it to someone else as the swap, not that big of a deal.
