the only thing that sucks about most photo contests is that they retain rights to ALL pictures submitted, not just those pics that win. lame ass.

yeah it's a big money maker on some of the contests for sure. There's a few free ones too. Smithsonian does one, The Red Bull Illume just closed for entries and it has a $40,000 prize, Canon and Nikon both do free contests as well. I got 2nd in the PDN & Geo Traveler World in Focus contest and that $35 entry fee sent the whole family to Bali for a couple weeks so I guess it's all about how you look at it.
