Decided to build my own media basket today. I am somewhat handy being in construction my whole life so here it is. I give stevie t alot of respect because it is not as easy as it seems.
Bought piece of plexi-glass from hd and a piece of eggcrate for lights in a drop ceiling, and silicone. Total cost about $22

In the tank working. Its hard to see but i also made a little shelf by the overflow so the water spills into the middle. The light there is a clip on LED, will this be enough for the cheato? It lights up the area pretty well, it has 3 bulbs but did not have any wattage or anything. $8.00

The LED is a round clip on. battery powered. I figured i would try it. Only $8 if it doest do the job i have other uses for it

Looks good, did you make one of the walls removable? If not, how do you get the media out from the lower shelves, remove the shelves above them?

Thanks, I made it with only 3 walls. the open side is faceing ch 1 so i will have to lift out whole unit to replace chempure/cheato, etc


Thank u, but it does not look as nice as yours. I saw ur thread a few days ago and that gave me the idea to do it. I figured it did not have to look pretty since it is being stuffed in the back.

Ahh, ok. Is there a reason you went for 3 sides instead of four? Do you think that the water gets forced through the media at the bottom with only 3 sides?

My thinking of the 3 sides was so i could get the media in and out easy. The open side is up against the wall between ch 1 and ch 2 (creating a 4th wall). with the little ledge that i added forcing the water to the center of the basket i would say that the majority of water makes it all the way down. Is it perfect no but was my first shot.

Question to everyone else... how high do u keep water levels, how high up on the basket.
