Yes I did see zook's chalices. He has some nice ones.

None of them are high end and two are echinoporas and aren't "true" chalices but here's the 5 I have in my pico:

I think their colors would be a little better under lower light but they look as good as or better than when I got them and are all growing pretty well. They all take mysis every couple days as well as a cyclopeeze/bbs/prime reef slurry once a week.

Nice collection.
I have no idea on their care. I have been keeping them low light. Nothing else really.
This is the only one I really like. Didn't at first but it has started to color up and grow on me.
Don't know a name for it though if there is one for this morph.
Lawnman
Nice guys keep them coming.

I'm supposed to be getting some unnamed but cool chalices next Tuesday.
I'm a little nervous about it cause I don't have much experience with Chalices.
That's right, I'm a Chalice Noob. blush.gif

Got this Chalice mid-January.
The blackish color faded just a teensy bit, but it's prob cause I need new bulbs.
I just ordered some last night.
I got some kinda Orange Crush something or other Chalice from er1c_the_reefer a while back and it faded on me.
It's very likely that it was from all the stress my system went through last year though.
Tank is doing much better now and it seems to be coloring back up somewhat.
Don't have any pics of it with it's current coloration.

nikesb and weets, those are gorgeous. wish i could afford chalice.

chalice is to reefers like cocain is to CEOs.......it's a rich person drug.

Lol, I got lucky and got it for $15 at a Frag Swap.
Got it from the Wet Thumb Frags booth, if it makes any difference.
I only do cheap chalices, I don't have a rich person budget.
The unnamed chalices I'm getting on Tuesday are actually freebies being thrown in because I got a bigger order.
Only reason I was able to do a semi big order in the first place is cause my Tax Refund, it's been 3 yrs since I placed an order like that.
I'm hoping to propagate the Chalice frags they send me and sell them for affordable prices though, so maybe that will help you out. wink.gif

So what exactly is a chalice? Genus or Family or what?

EDIT: Answered my own question - some say Echinophyllia's. but several sites list Echinopora's and Mycedium's as Chalices also.
Oh, Cptbjorn - what is the one at the lower left, blue color? I've got one of those and until recently thought it was a Montipora, but the polyps are different.
Lawnman
Weeta that chalice is awesome. I like alot of the high dollar chalices like everyone else does. I got really good deals on the 2 that I have. I have always had good luck with mine. Sandbed placement with MH and LEDS. I feed the tank cyclopeeze and get great growth. Hoping to get some really nice chalices at the indmas feag swap may1st wet thumbs will be there woot woot.

From a lawnman to a yard boy lol I call them a colorful lps rock that grows.

I'm no expert but from what I understand the "true chalices" are from the family pectiniidae which includes genera such as echinophyllia, mycedium, and a few others. Echinoporas are also commonly called chalices but they are classified in the favia family and they are quite different from the true chalices.

The lower left one is an echinopora and from what I've read most of the ones in the hobby can be traced back to a piece Tyree got back in the mid 90s.

I have a Miami Hurricane that's finally about to cover the entire plug it's on and with new lighting coming I need to move it too. BC14 currently with PC lighting. New lights are LED retro-fit. So the question. Do I just move the plug to the sandbed, attach plug to a flat rock or what? Not sure what happens after it out grows the plug.

Either would work, but I'd def put that Chalice in the shade at first when you do the LED upgrade, or it might bleach.
