The new fish should be here on Tuesday
I used a cheap plastic jug from smart and final and used a soldering iron to melt several holes in it. I cut the bottom out and left a X of plastic material through the middle.
Then placed a piece of LR in the cap before putting it on... and set it upside down in the tank. As far as flow I set it more towards the front of the tank and angled a power head so that some of the flow was hitting it. You don't ned a lot going through it.
So far it's been working pretty well. No mess and the water quality is pretty good.
That will go away once I get those tanks plumbed though. It's just a temp fix.
it will be there tuesday

No one here is breeding them - as in no one on N-R. OK... well at least one of them. That I know of and yes they are "designer" clowns.
I should be getting a tracking number this morning - when I get the number I'll let you all know what I'm getting.

OK.. well I just got my tracking number and the fish should be here around 10:30 tomorrow.
First one I'm getting is a little more comon but has always been a favorite of mine which is a Picasso.
The second - which I know are tank bred but I haven't seen here before is the Fancy White Clown. The one I'm getting is just like this one:
http://www.bluezooaquatics.com/productdeta...=9716&did=1I'll post pictures tomorrow night after I get them home and settled in.

are you going to pair the picasso with an onyx and the fancy with a b/w occellaris? that would keep the blood lines correct. i was looking at those on bluezoo last night, they have really nice ones for sure. every time i find fancy's they dont have the nice connecting top bar, they just look like mocha clowns.
did you buy from the top 50 wysiwyg section? the ones i find always look like these ones

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgosH1nArboThe Picasso will go with a onyx but the fancy I planned on a orange O - I didn't think there was any B&W in the line, everything I see stated that they are a cross between an A. ocellaris and a Wyoming White - but doesn't make any mention of B&W A. ocellaris.
I'm not getting them from Bluezoo - just used the pic as refence since it's one of cleanest I could find. I'm actually getting them from someone else on here.

very nice looking clowns for sure. i myself would like a pair.
i mentioned the b/w because of what ive read on the internet. but ive seen contradicting information thats supposed to be from sa themselves, a rep said they were a retired ora pair that came from divers den that showed a heavy black/ dusty outline around one of the fishes stripes. they were both regular orange ocellaris.
the other i have seen was supposedly told by matt carberry president of sa, he said they were selectively bred to show more black, similar to what we seen in this thread a few months ago, there is no way those fish came from 2 orange ocellaris.

I have 2 pairs of the fancy ocellaris in my classroom tanks that I got directly from SA for our classroom breeding program. They are really beautiful fish with various amounts of black (they are still young) and their orange is more of a reddish orange. I'll try to remember to post pics of them next week when I return to school. I'm home all of this week recovering (was in the hospital for 6 days with a collapsed lung

).
Looking forward to see your pics, Pickle. How old are yours?

That's pretty bad when the ground guy makes it there before the overnight guy! And you posted that at 2:00 PST, right? Isn't there some type of guarantee that they're supposed to be there by 10:30 a.m. or within x number of minutes of that time?
Pickle010
Feb 8 2011, 06:42 PM
Well neighter one made it... I honestly don't think it was the time in the bag as it was the packaging. The top piece of styro didn't cover the entire top of the box - there was a 1" gap in the lid and it wasn't taped on or anything just set on top. Judging by the cloudiness of the water and smell in my office - I don't think they made it out of their origin alive.
I already spoke to the shipper and he is going to make it right. He's getting the correct shipping box and will send out two new fish once he has the materials.
Unfortunately he left it to someone else in the shop to pack them and the person really did a terrible job.
It's really a shame - they were really beautiful fish.
Vodka tonic anyone?

I'm not sure if the sender would have a claim with Fedex if he had a gaurantee on arrival time. I've had live fish shipped here to office before and they've all come in the afternoon - never been a problem.

Pickles, I am REALLY sorry to hear that they didn't make it. It's bad enough that they were late and you had to sit there and keep wondering when they'd arrive, but to finally get them and then find them dead. I know you must be so bummed right now. Again, SO SORRY TO HEAR THIS.

You just got to pack them right... is all. The person I'm getting them from knows what he is doing - unfortunately the guy he had pack them didn't. It really was a bad job - besides the lose fitting lid - it wasn't taped in place and inside the box there wasn't any newspaper - just random pieces of styrofoam wedged between the bags and sides. So the gap left all kiinds of room for the heat to escape and the cold to get in.
The temp of the water was in the low 60's when I got them - but I'm sure it got much colder before it left the east coast and more than likely warmed up here as it sat on the truck.
So we are going to try again once he has the correct packing materials - I know it will go much better the next time.
Pickle010
Feb 8 2011, 10:08 PM
I was thinking more about what you said Ty on my drive home from work... the nervous about shipping thing... and honestly when it boils down to it, it will probably happen to all of us. You know shipping fish and having them arrive DOA.
I guess the difference is how you handle it.
For this seller, I can say he's been really great so far. The communication has been outstanding, he even warned me last night that he had a bad feeling about this shipment and when I called him he was all over it and apologetic. Said he'd make it right and handle the next shipment himself.
Yeah, I'm still bummed as the two that died today where my first picks but #### happens. I'm still confident that the guy will do his best to get me some nice fish and try to make up for it.
I guess that's all we can really do - as a buyer i get taken care of and as a seller I get a lesson on how to treat others.

Sorry to hear about your hospital visit. i hate that place. hope you are feeling better.
Pickle, sucks soo bad about loosing the fishies. i simply hate fedex. i lost soo many corals from them its not funny. i never got a package on time. if the person shipping via fedex i make them hold it at the facility and i got pick up in the morning. Fedex does not allow shipping of live items. they will ship it but they will not allow a claim for dead items. i like UPS better. less rides the fish get the better.

I don't think I'd breed them with darwins because most of them have SO much black when they mature anyway. See the pic from this thread on MOFIB.
