What happens if a couple polyps from zoanthids rip off from each other? My hands were in the water while this happened!!! What should I do?
RyanR1212

this is not correct. palytoxin is actually is a very potent toxin (second most non-peptic toxin known to man), and while i don't think it should be unnecessarily feared, it should be treated with seriousness and respect.

Per wikipedia, "Typical symptoms of palytoxin poisoning are angina-like chest pains, asthma-like breathing difficulties, tachycardia, unstable blood pressure, hemolysis (destruction of red blood cells), and an electrocardiogram showing an exaggerated T wave. The onset of symptoms is rapid, and death usually follows just minutes after."

see this report from the NIH regarding palytoxin poisoning resulting from the handling of an aquarium zoanthid, even with intact skin: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19545971

well if you want to see how much it takes to die, go buy a colony. go in bathtub and fill (78 of course). Lay in tub and cut one zoa at a time until you feel deathy. then cut 5 more and your results confirmed.

wait... we may not be in the clear here yet. all of his posts came in a 7 minute span, and nothing since then (in this topic or any other)!

... this could still be awkward.
