I have had a Tomato clown since early September,
I'm wanting to get a male tomato clown so that I will have a pair.
I'm assuming I can pick out a clown half her size,
quarantine it for a month then add it and hopefully he won't get beaten up too much,
then eventually I'll have a pair.
The concern i have is that the male clown after a month of QT will turn into a female,
will it happen that quickly if I choose a really small one ?

Why don't you put them both in the qt at the same time? This will keep aggression down because the qt will be new to both and you won't have to worry about your male turning female.

I thought the exact same thing, because tomato clowns can be so aggressive and putting both in a new environment will allow them to get used to each other. If the new one looks healthy and is eating a the LFS I would put them both in the QT.

even being in a qt for a month it will not turn the male into a female.

Hmm the QT I have is only 7 gallons...
I know what you mean by aggression,
she was the only thing that broke the phseudochromis Diadema's(the fish used to charge me when I came to the tank!) will to beat up my other fish.
She however leaves my blenny alone and isn't otherwise aggressive.
Could I possibly rescape my tank to fix this?
I hate my tanks scape, it's the perfect excuse to redo it...
I've redone my tank a few times(never get a tall tank!)
and she seems to hide out for a few week and is much less in your face.
If it's a lot better I can setup a larger QT,
however if I can get by with redoing my tank I'd prefer it....
Thanks for the info I appreciate it.

Yes you can always try re-scaping. Even though she may seem passive now, clownfish become killers when they are introduced to a new clownfish, especially Tomato and Maroon clowns. I liked the idea of sharing the QT because it was neutral, but by all means try re-scaping. Remember if she starts fighting and you have to remove the new clown how hard or easy will it be to catch and remove the new clown. Good luck and when you get the new guy post pics, I love clownfish.
