Tank is 3 days old. LFS had a order of liverock come in so got what I thought were some neat pieces. Guy there told me if the coral died during cycle it may come back may not. or may not even die at all.

Well, LR has been in there 2 days and from these pictures the corals are actually doing better than they were at the store
....But what is it, lol??

There are about 5 bi-valves that open and close through the day. once i get all the rock i need and start aquascaping, is there a way to remove the clams without hurting them?

Only have 7lbs on live rock, 3lbs dead rock in a 28g nano cube hqi. Shooting for 40lbs, but going slow due to budget.

They are some type of LPS, large polyp stony, corals. They could be photosynthetic. Did this rock come from Florida?

You should do a soft cycle to keep the corals alive; see the thread with that title in the biological filtration forum for more info. Aim for 1-1.5 lbs per gallon, so 40 pounds is overkill. You should avoid adding more live rock that could create longer or bigger cycles and stress the corals out. Dry rock won't hurt the coral.

looks like galaxia coral to me. yeah i would definitly cycle it slowly cause thats a cool coral and you definitly want it to survive.

yes the rock did come from florida. the soft cycle looks like a great idea, thanks for the idea. would it be ok to add some more live rock that has coraline algae only on it?

Sorry if this question should be on a different forum, will move in need be..

The 3 colonies are all growing on clams. (2part question)
Should i remove the clams?(5total), and
How do i get the coral off the clams without killin them?

When i started my tank and bought my LR from LFs it has about 10 different clams on it ranging in size from smaller than a fingernail to about 2" across. My tank is 4 weeks old now and the clams seem to be doing great. some days they seem to be more open than others but while i am cycling now they are cool to watch.

The clams are harmless, so you can leave them in there.

Agree with occulina. Very common on aquacultured florida rock. Looks to be in good shape. I would definately soft cycle to try and preserve.

Soft cycle worked. only lost maybe 3 small heads of the occulina. Very cool process...thanks for the help!
