Today she said, "I'm about ready for you to get your picassos"
WTF?
Anyways, I told her I didn't want to put them in the 90g because I wanted them to be the focal point of the tank. Also, I don't want them to go in the 14g biocube because to me it is a bit smallish for a pair of clowns and I would like to keep an anemone as well. I was also looking into shallow rimless tanks but I don't think I could sleep at night with an open top tank and a $350 pair of fish. I do like the new 29g Biocube HQI but.....
So the question I pose to you. If you were going to do an anemone/picasso tank, what would be your ideal setup? Be as specific as you can please. Adios.

We had our picassos in an open top 20h with cats in the house lol.
But my ideal setup for that would be something a little larger (30g?) Shallow, open top and rimless, with a sort of cove thing going on to have the anemone hopefully showcased in the middle.

So now the question is will the wife allow you to have another tank?

Still a gamble, cats are one thing, 2 year old is another.

She started it. Besides I would be ditching the biocube in favor of this tank.

well for starters...I hate those all-in-ones...second I've had my clowns for almost 5 years in an open top aquarium - no jumps.
So my ideal setup to show off clown/anemone would be 24 long x 18 wide x 14 tall. Drilled with overflow, return through an SCWD or ocean motion current switcher. No powerheads inside the aquarium. Lighting...maybe a 150 pendant @ 20k.
As for filtration...maybe just a filterbag and a strong skimmer.

my 20g is rimless with an open top, no jumping.. my dad's 29g is also an open top with 2 clowns, no jumping.
despite many attempts to bite me, scare me, get out of the tank, the most extreme amount of behavior of my clown only lets her flap around on the surface a little bit.
also, IMO clowns will always be the focal point of the tank, they're always right in front of your face whether you want them to be or not.

Excellent suggestion. The reason I mentioned AIOs is I do like the simplicity. I tend to "over complicate" builds if everyone hasn't noticed. Sometime I just want to build a tank with a HOB fuge and a good light, lol.
Anyways, great suggestion. Unfotunately I have had 2 clowns jump in less than 6 months when I had my 40 breeder, and that was with a canopy.

Jumping is only part of the worry, my 2 year old poses another threat.

Ok here is another thing. I hate acrylic, but I have a father-in-law that does acrylic work. I could build my own from glass but it would be more expensive. How do you take care of coralline and stuff on acrylic without scratching the crap out of it? I've always used razor blades on glass, no no on acrylic. What else would I have to worry about?

The thing is, with whatever tank you decide to go with, the tank needs to be run for 6 months or so before you put an anemone in. I'm sure you knew that though.... right??
I'd go for the new HQI BC29. My picassos are not out front & center, BTW. They want to hang on one side of the tank. And unlike pineo, my picassos did do some chamber diving and I had to rescue them a couple of times. Talk about freakin' out! This stopped though once I got StevieTs' fish saver.

Plumb it to a larger set-up, or get rock, water, and sand from your 90 gallon. Then replace the rock + sand in your 90 gallon. Instant gratification!

http://www.petstore.com/ps_ViewItem.aspx?i...mp;child=AZ1123I've seen those too, just a little smaller than I was wanting. The absolute smallest I would probably go with would be a 15 long, most likely more along the lines of a 20 long minimum.
