I have 50-60lbs of dry rock from bulkreefsupply.com. Was planning on a clean aiptasia, zoa eating spider, pest free etc tank. Now I am wondering if this is a bad idea.

I had a aquapod with live rock from a local hobbiest and it was full sponges that grew like crazy, kenya tree forest, all you can eat aiptasia bar for nudii's and macro growing out of half the rock in a matter of a few days. Zoas wouldnt grow on this rock either. Trying to avoid all of this.

I know I will need to seed the tank and that I could use some more rock for my 75 gallon.

Should I stick with the dry and sterile method? I worry that if I use dry rock, dry sand with very little seeded from another tank .

1)My cycle will take forever.
2)I will be missing allot of beneficial critters in the tank I wouldnt have otherwise. Pods etc.

So should I seed it with 40lbs of Fiji standard from DFS or get the live rock from a local store that is void of any algae and looks like wet dry rock.
Or stick with the dry sterile method?

I did about 60/40 dry (BRS) / cured live rock (LFS) Esp with a bigger tank you can save a ton of $$ going with some dry rock. Keep in mind it will take longer to build up the good bacteria, and about 6 months for it to blend in with the coraline, etc.

+ another good thread

It will take much longer but I think the trade off is worth it. I myself was thinking about starting a new tank with base rock. I suppose as long as you have the patience.
