i have noticed flow decreases te amount of algea build up i was wondering the best powerheads for reducing algea i have heard of koralias vortechs and maxijets with sure flow mods. which one will prevent alfea and not be over done and push sand every where. what are suggestions for a 29 gallon ?

If you can afford it, a Vortech MP10 is the best way to go, IMO.

well vortech = best not cheapest.
korialas would be next best bet. look at flow, width of flow, cost of flow (watts), & wave simulation.
or look into putting the return line through a scwd, and eductor nozzles. then get the vortech later for cmas or when ever you can.

+1 Koralia. I think this exactly what you're looking for.

I have a K1 and K2 in my 29. I have a Sureflow but even on a mj400 it is too much for a 29 and blows the sand around. K2 for sure.

IME, it is hard to beat a modded Tunze Nanostream 6025 for the best bang-for-your-buck. They are a small powerhead (not as much as the Vortech, however) capable of up to around 1500 gph. You can even trim some of the volute to make the stream even broader and more gentle, but still high volume. All the above choices will work out great, however.
