Hi guys, just got a bit of LR in the tank and I'm curious if anyone has an idea of what this can be:

Looks like a sponge of some sort? There's probably 20-30 of these little bits scattered on the rock. Haven't had much luck trying to ID it myself, but I'm still pretty new to this game tongue.gif

Well that's nice to hear smile.gif there's quite a few dispersed around the rock.. hopefully some of it survived the trip. There was some yellow sponge on the rock as well, a bit larger, but i don't know where it's gone since I've rearranged the rocks.

Ooh pretty! I hope those stick around for you.

Are they hard or soft? Hard red objects could be foraminiferans.

I'll give one of them a poke when I get home (~2 hours) and report back. I'm hoping it is a sponge and hasn't died.. that could look pretty nice. However, they are foraminiferans, guess that's nothing to worry about.

Props to the Foramin-guessers... they're hard as a rock. So these guys don't really do anything eh? From what I've read they just kinda sit there tongue.gif

The main focus of the first pic looks like a sponge and I have never seen foraminiferans look that shape or with that many openings. I attempted to seach further, but with no good results. If infact they are all firm and hard to light touch then I have to agree, but it looks like a sponge to me.

The big red object could be a sponge, but the others look like foraminiferans which eat bacteria and other small things.
