What the heck is growing from/on these zoanthinds ? They almost look like small polyps spreading... Im concerned and have never seen them before. I picked them up at a frag swap, freshwater dipped and then iodine. Just curious if this is something I should be reacting to..
TheBlueLorax
It looks like either a sponge or fugus, dont kno for sure though

Agreed, that is what it looks like, I have know way of knowing either. The zoa's were all open and happy when I picked them up. Just don't want to find out I should have tossed the piece in 2 months after it has destroyed my collection.
TheBlueLorax
Well have u checked zoaid.com i think they have zoa disease gallery, check there see what ya find

The white stuff is a sponge, but the thing sticking out to the front of the picture looks like a polyp that may need to be removed.

I have checked it in the past, from what I recall there is nothing that compares to this, fungus although white does not appear to grow the same way as this does. From what I recall anyway.

Did some reading, This could be ID'it as a parasitic sponge. It will slowly out compete the zoas for space if there is enough nutrient in the water to support its growth VS the light zoas will use for their growth. Im thinking one of two things, a) Leave it on the counter for an hour... let the sponge get some air. cool.gif Use the sponge as a warning, if its growing thats my nutrient alarm. Im using RO/Di and there are no fish in the system yet... lets see what happens smile.gif
