you dont.. least i never heard of it.. sponges are extremely hard to keep atleast of any size in most tanks.. and they are even more delicate when damaged.

I've heard of people fragging sponges so to speak. Hell I've heard of people propogating them more around their tanks by just taking a piece and smearing it all over rocks where they want it to grow.

I would think that since sponges are pretty simple organisims you could just cut some pieces off. I think you want to do it IN the water though. I seem to have some hazy memory of reading about just being pulled into air killing them.

Don't take my word for it though, I'm still looking for a local reefer to give me some sponge bits biggrin.gif

DO NOT LET THEM OUT OF WATER if air is allowed to hit them they absorb air into the sponge and it wont come out once it goes back in water so it dies

I always hear this, but have exposed nearly every sponge in my tank to the air (for as long as 10 minutes) at one point or another(mostly by accident, the other times didn't really have a choice) and not one sponge has died or dissolved or whatever, from it.

Not sayin it can't kill it, just I have never had it happen.

For the record, I am NOT saying that you SHOULD expose it to air.
