Full Version: additives to replace/reduce water changes

Hi,

I've read a few places around the net that some people have just used additives so they don't have to do water changes or significantly reduce water changes?

anyone tried it?

because i was thinking, if you are able to control the waste produced with cheato/fuge, then all you need to replace is the trace elements in the water. i suppose a water change here and there would still be needed but not as frequent?

i watched a reef video aaaages ago on youtube and the guy said he hadn't done a water change in 6months, and his reef look stunning and in really good shape!

any experts here know anything about this topic?

thanks in advance!

You can dose to replenish all sorts of stuff that will be consumed over time. You can skim out a lot of the waste (and other methods). In my mind the only way you would be able to completely live without water changes would be dosing, mechanical waste export and a tank which is so well established it has reached the point of being able to completely process whatever is left as far was waste.

And a nano is not likely that tank...
