Went to checkup on my tank and looked at my maxi-minis, to my horror i thought that they were melting at a rapid pace. Upon closer inspection it seemed that they were undergoing sexual reproduction!

Grabbed my cam and snapped a few pics, it was hard to get any pics after the first minute or two as the whole tank became cloudy with the nem's "juices". I couldn't really get a good pic of the stuff oozing out of its mouth but I turned off the flow and shot a pic of the fluid collecting around the mouth. They've been squirting out the reproductive fluid for about 10 mins now and my tank is increasingly getting cloudy!

Enjoy!

Fluid Collecting around nems mouth

Closeup on what looks like small egg masses of some sort?

Cloudy tank at 5 minutes (now even more cloudy)

At 10 mins (frag tank is being split with my 120gal display so this cloudyness is actually being diluted as well)

20 mins

Second spawning in 2 days Enjoy!

Egg masses being squirted out from a nem's mouth.

Here you can see the density in the water, there are probably thousands in here.

Very cool. I wonder if they will actually develop, that would be very very cool.

My minis spawned 2 weeks ago, the day before I was set to ship a couple to OK. Photo

The minis in this tank are just mini. Temp 79/80 , had them for about 3 years, Not sure how many in here or how many spawned. Happened around 5:00 pm.

Keep us updated, would be awesome if babies came from this!

Really awesome! It seems like were finally having reefers find success with sexual reproduction. Keep us updated.

Came home from work today at 7pm and a few of them are still squirting out ooze, although it seems isolated unlike yesterdays where all of them squirted at the same time.

It's now 10pm and after my nap I checked on my tank. The tank is once again completely cloudy and I daresay there are even more small white egg masses(?) floating around in the tank than yesterdays spawning.

The fish in my DT have fully bloated bellys and I have not fed them in 2 days. I do believe they have been eating the white balls that are reaching the DT.
adinsxq
what do you feed?
amnestia
Feeding PE mysis/regular mysis/brine not often though maybe once a week when I remember to.

With the kind of density in the tank i'm assuming that a good amount of them are going to be fertilized. Whether they make it or not depends on if they are gonna get sucked up by the protein skimmer/pumps or eaten by my fish (my fish are definitely eating them since I saw my blue tang munching away).

absolutely amazing!

So some of them are settling on the glass or a hard surface and stuck there?
I so want to see these turn into baby nems, if i was you i would be dancing around like an idiot and watching the tank 24/7.
amnestia
Yeah i'm really hoping that they do become mini nems, although not all of them (i'm sure there were at least a thousand eggs in there). I'm slightly afraid of the new babies stinging stuff everywhere but we'll get to that if/when they do develop!
