Royal Gramma, added 2 days ago, Getting picked on by the wrasse, and has white stuff under his eyes, and like a brown spot behind his gills, and camera shy. is he okay? he wants to hang out in the same spot as all three other fish. if he would just move to the other side of the tank.

I have a 29 im gonna use as a QT, anyone have a link to a QT setup?

Grammas can be weird. All of mine have been seriously nippy with tankmates, but they're also really skittish. As far as HIM getting whooped on, I wouldn't worry too much just yet. You just added him and the wrasse is probably just staking out battle lines with his new cellmate.

The picture doesn't show the white spots but I THINK I remember my last gramma having white spots here and there without it being a problem. However it COULD be ich either from the fish store, or brought on by stress from the wrasse fighting him.

I'd say for now just try and get him to eat. If the aggression doesn't slow down or if the white spreads over the rest of a week, you've got a bigger issue. In either of those cases, quarantine would be a good idea if you want to keep him, or bring him back to the store.

then again good luck catching a gramma that isn't sick. wink.gif

edit: your PH is low, that's not going to help acclimate him

you really should have added the wrasse last, they are very territorial and mean sob's! Anything you put in from this point will get the crap beat out of them by that wrasse. You can QT all you want but as soon as you throw the gramma back in, the wrasse will attack.

What specifically is "the wrasse"? What is the complete fish list?

you can see him in the back of that picture I think. Is that a sixline?
lowbread
its all in my tank thread. in order added, 2 yellow watchmen gobys, 1 sixline wrasse, 1 royal gramma.
lakshwadeep
you could try rearranging some rock so the wrasse gets disoriented.

Sometimes fish act aggressive because they have a recognized territory (in this case the entire tank), so rearrangement helps to make all the fish feel like they're in a new area where there is no dominant resident. This is likely the reason many people suggest adding six lines as the last fish.

Ya, i really wish i would have added the wrasse last. now im concerned about adding small clowns. but the gramma seams to be standing its own grown just fine now, and the wrasse will give it space.

+1

Just to further elaborate on what lakshwadeep said, I'd also recommend removing the wrasse, rearranging the rockwork, adding the other fish then re-adding the wrasse last.
lowbread
Ya. I rearranged ALL the rockwork to my Coffee table. then i rearranged the wrasse's bag right to the LFS.

p.s. the gramma is doing fine. biggrin.gif
