Hello all,
I'm sure this has been answered before on this forum; however I was unable locate a thread using the search function. A bit of a noobish question...
Can I place my media bags (i.e. chemipure, purigen) in the filter sock on the sump inlet? It seems like it would make good sense by utilizing the flow and being contained in the sock. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I personally do and have done so for over a year and I've seen no adverse affects, to me it's nice because I switch out my sock every water change giving me a chance to rinse the media bags of any junk that has accumulated on them. Plus as you said it gives good flow over them allowing alot of water contact.

i rinse in tap water
and you could do it but the only problem i see is i have to change my socks everyother day so changing he media the often can get very expensive.
I plan do this with carbon when I put flatworm exit in my tank but it will only stay in there like 12 hours the carbon that is.

I use chemi-pure elite and purigen in my sock and I replace those every 3-4 months, I only have to change my sock out every friday with my waterchange, I have multiple socks so what I do is rotate between them, when I've used a sock for a week I change it out and then place the dirty one in a bucket with tap water and a small amount of bleach and let it soak for a day, I then rinse the hell out of it with regular tap water and then hang dry it, when it's dry and all the water has evaporated from it, I then give it a R/O bath and rinse it really well with the R/O, then hang dry it again till it's completely dry, I've been doing this for years and have never had any issues.

It should be fine but if you have a high flow of water through your sock it might break up your carbon into dust. But then again the sock would probably filter that out........ Hmm..... Might do it myself.
