hey whats up, i have a wet/dry for a 75 gallon and a protein skimmer for a 75 gallon. Both are made by sealife systems. I want to convert the wet/dry in to a sump and i wanted to know what you guys suggest i do?

This is it

Im going to be using it for a 30 gallon tank, saltwater, fish, soft corals, inverts. I have a hang-in overflow filter. Coralife 24 Inch Aqualight Compact Fluorescent Retrofit Kit w/ 2-65W Lamps Straight Pin. 40 pound of Caribsea Arag Alive Fiji Pink. Taam Rio+ 1300 Powerhead/Pump UL, maxi jet 400, heater.

Looking at it i would say that the best way is fuge in 1st section. Toss the BioBalls and replace with cheto. No sand judging by the baffle setup. I would also leave the egg crate and have your macro above it.

That drip plate would be a nice place for filter floss also.

Then skimmer in last section w/return pump. You might get some micro bubbles from it though. Maybe run the drain from the skimmer into fuge section?

Yeah thats a good idea, i was thinking of lowering the tray so the cheato would be completely submerged. but now thinking, should i turn the egg crate to a vertical position and move it into the middle section of that part. so the cheato wont start growing into the blue sponge?

I didnt think about the water level. I think it would be fine even without the egg crate. If you wanted though you could get a longer piece and put in there diagonal so it doesn't contact the sponge.

Also might want to think about lighting. Maybe something like the 18w coralife fixture mounted vertically. I think it would work quite well.

now can i use a regular light bulb for cheato? i was thinking of using a 14 watt bulb that has the light power of a 60 watt. they are cold and spriral shaped. could i use that?

Try it. I have seen several people use common bulbs.

i did it, its working great.

i did get some microbubbles, i put some filter floss on the outflow of the skimmer, plexyglass sheet, slab of live rock, right in between the return pump and skimmer.

Are those ceramic bio pellets? If so ditch them. The LR in your tank will be enough to take care of bio filtration.
