i was wondering.... i have a 30 gallon salt water tank and a wet/dry filter for a 75 gallon. i purchased Seachem Matrix, it says "Use 1-2 Liters of Matrix for each 100 gallons."

what would happen if i put 2 liters?

Ok this question has been asked and asked and asked by noobs around the world...none the less...

Really depends on whether or not this is a fish tank or a reef tank. Fish tank - I say go nuts, put as much bio filtration as you want too.

If its a reef, ditch the wet/dry and bio media alltogeteher. They will simply produce nitrates and cause algae issues. Live rock and a skimmer will filter the water for you.

ok cool, i have a skimmer for a 75 gallon with a new pump too. It is a new tank and has not been set up yet. I have all the products, just waiting to paint the stand for it. I plan to have fish, ricordia's, poylps, probally a bubble tip anenome. just simple stuff, nothing expensive.

I am also going to add live rock to the aquarium,

Wet/dry filters are so last century.

Live rock is a far superior bio filtering substrate. And it just looks better than any other bio blah blah material too.

Ditch the Matrix, drip plate, drip bars, whatever. Mod the wet/dry into a sump and/or refugium. And take the Matrix back and get a refund or credit. Buy 30-45 pounds of premium Live Rock instead, and put it in your display.

Oh, one other thing. You really need to question the veracity(competence) of the LFS guy or gal who sold you that stuff in the first place.

Yea thats true, i baught 40 pounds of the aragalife fuji pink sand. i wouldnt mine converting it into a sump or refugium. i was thinking of getting rocks from the sea, a couple miles out. Leaving them out in the sun and letting them dry (killing any parasites or harmful critters) and then adding them to my aquarium.
should i still use the skimmer?

Where from the sea? Like, where are you? I wouldn't bother killing all the stuff on the rocks...leave it on. You're going to have parasites anyway, most of the fish are wild caught....

FYI, I think it is HIGHLY illegal to collect rocks in Florida. Thats why there is no more Florida live rock on the market, which was where you got your liverock if you were in the hobby in the late 80's/early 90's. Anyway, if you do go get rock from there, no need to sterilize it. It will be like any other peice of liverock.

We need a Wiki entry for these entitled 'solution in search of a problem'.

Indeed, a LFS store pushing this junk is likely selling garden furniture and has a Slush-ee stand.

Yes it is highly illegal if fish and game catch you with any size live rock they will confiscate all your equipment including vehicles and serve you with a heavy fine. There are plenty of places to buy aquacultured florida LR at rock bottom prices don't risk it.

yea thats true
