Soo I'm looking at restarting my tank to some degree. I've posted in the AIO forums how I don't have the money or desire right now to focus on a heavy coral nano tank right now (10-20 a pop for a frag just isn't ideal right now). I have much more luck and happiness with fishies. Anyhow, I'm currently fighting lots of algae and I've lost a lot of my coralline algae color for reasons unknown.

What I'd like to do is restart the liverock. Basically I don't know what's on it and I don't really care, I'd rather just start a new. How would you suggest going about it? Bleach dips? What are the steps?

I'm also thinking about trying to skim the sand to get it nice a white again. Any tools you all would recommend? I only have 2 frags that are really worth keeping, I'll try and get them to a LFS if they will take them. I have a clown, a chromie, and a damsel I'd like to keep so keep that in mind if I'd have to clear out my take or whatever. Thanks for the advice.

how long have you had your tank?!?

fill a pot with Ro water and throw the rock in there and cook it a little bit then scrub. should take off everything on there. now may not be the best way. but it works.

I boiled my rock and it seems to have worked just fine.

I've had my tank setup for about a year and a half now? I know its not that long, but I want to do it based on what I see on the rocks. I'm sure I could ID the types of algae and try and treat them, but if I'm switching gears why bother. Soooo, one idea is to boil it on the stove. For how long? 5 min at boiling? What about bleach? Any idea for cleaning the sandbed out?

do not use bleach. do not use bleach. just fill pot with ro water then put rock in and turn on stove. once its boiling flip it then about 5 mins later itll be good. what do you mean clean the sandbed? i mean you can take the very top off but i wouldnt go deep at all because your nitrates will spike.
